It is always good to see a made to order seat arrive, especially one as striking as this pair of Cobra Clubman 40th Edition bucket seats. They are built on Cobra's steel framed Clubman, with the 40th Edition's vinyl trim and anthracite eyelets, and the customer chose yellow stitching, which stood out on our display, if only for a short while.
The seats came in to be checked over before going straight out to the customer, but we could not let them pass without a proper look. The 40th Edition suits classic car restorations, retro builds, fast road cars and track days, and it looks at home in anything from a rally replica to an old-school road car.

About the Cobra Clubman 40th Edition
The 40th Edition marks Cobra's fortieth year, and it is an anniversary trim on the standard Clubman shell, so the engineering underneath is the same. It uses vinyl in place of the standard seat's 3D spacer fabric, which gives a period look, is easy to clean, and wears well.

Compact dimensions
The Clubman is a slim seat, which makes it a good choice where cabin space is tight. Our listing gives:

Its narrow profile suits small coupes, classic roadsters and kit cars where wider bucket seats will not go in, but measure your car first.
Installation and mounting
The Clubman is base mounted, on Cobra’s narrower 291mm pattern. That lines up with Cobra’s own vehicle-specific subframes and sliding runners, which is the simplest bolt-in route for cars Cobra cover.
Where there is no Cobra frame for the car, there are two options:
- a custom fabricated base frame, or
- adaption bars, which bridge the difference between the Clubman’s pattern and a frame drilled for a wider one, such as the 345mm frames many other brands use

The standard Clubman on display
The 40th Edition pair did not stay long, but we have the standard Cobra Clubman on display to try. It has the same shape, dimensions and steel frame; the difference is the trim, 3D spacer fabric in place of vinyl, and the finish.
Garreth’s advice is to sit in the standard Clubman and compare it with the other fixed back buckets, then choose your trim and stitching once you know the shape suits you.
Why Cobra
Cobra have made seats for four decades, trimmed by hand in the UK, with a lot of choice in trims and colours. They cover road, classic and motorsport builds, and the Clubman is the entry point to the range: an anniversary finish on the least expensive seat Cobra make, which gives a pair a finished, bespoke look without the price of the seats higher up the range.
