What happened to Recaro
Recaro Automotive, the German company that makes Recaro car seats, filed for insolvency in July 2024. Production stopped, and for months nobody could say when, or whether, new seats would be built.
In December 2024 the Italian Proma Group signed an agreement to invest in the business. Proma make seat structures, body parts and suspension components for car makers. Under the new arrangement, seat production moves from Recaro’s base at Kirchheim unter Teck to the Turin area in Italy, while Recaro’s sales and technical teams stay in Germany.
Now production has restarted, which is the news everyone was waiting for.
For years, Recaro deliveries to us arrived in boxes like these, marked Made in Germany. Future seats will come from Italy.
What matters to customers is that the seats keep the same designs and standards. We will be looking closely at the first seats from the new production as they arrive.

What it means for your order
Recaro are working through the backlog of orders that built up during the pause, and giving those priority. New orders can be placed again, with a lead time Recaro quoted at around 18 weeks.
We placed stock orders with Recaro, so some customers should receive seats sooner than that. We do not yet have firm UK delivery dates, and we will not guess at them.
If you already have a Recaro order with us, we are following it closely and will contact you as soon as we have a shipping date. Spare parts and accessories are due to restart too, but there is no timeline for those yet.
What to expect next
Production is building back up, starting with seat shells. It will take some months before supply is back to normal, and there may be further changes to lead times along the way.
Being part of a larger group should give Recaro a steadier footing. We will post updates here as deliveries restart and as we hear more about spare parts.
Recaro seats we want back on display
Once supply settles, we plan to restock the showroom so you can sit in Recaro seats again before you buy. The ones we most want back:
- Pole Position. A fixed back bucket seat for performance road cars and track days.
- Profi SPG. Recaro’s FIA homologated competition bucket seat.
- Sportster CS. A reclining sports seat for fast road cars.
- Cross Sportster CS. A reclining sports seat from the same family, available with a side airbag and heating.
One fitting point worth knowing: base mounted Recaro seats use their own 405mm pattern and go straight on Planted brackets, an OMP base frame can take one with a little modification and drilling, and Recaro and Corbeau parts do not mix. Garreth’s advice is to tell us the car before you order a Recaro, and we will confirm the bracket you need.
