The Corbeau Revenge System 1 XL in Tartan Edition trim. An FIA 8855-1999 fibreglass bucket seat, fixed back, with head support, trimmed in wool tartan and velour. 960.

Eight tartans to choose from

Blair Ancient, Boyd Modern, Earl of St Andrews, MacFarlane Clan Ancient, MacKenzie Dress Modern, MacMillan Old Modern, Stewart Dress Modern and Weir Ancient. The tartan is genuine wool cloth, trimmed in house, which is why a Tartan Edition sits above the standard shell rather than alongside it.

The plain Revenge X System 1 XL is 670. The tartan work is the difference.

XL, and what that means for fit

This is the wide shell, sized for a 36 to 40 inch waist. The standard width Revenge System 1 Tartan is 875 and suits a 32 to 36 inch waist. A bucket seat holds you by gripping, so buying up a size because it sounds more comfortable is the wrong instinct.

System 1 means a fibreglass shell

Corbeau grade their shells as System 1, 3 and 5: fibreglass, Kevlar and carbon respectively. This tartan seat is System 1, the fibreglass shell. Mounting is a separate matter, and this one is base mount, so it sits on its base rather than hanging between side mounts. Check that your frames suit a base mount seat before ordering.

FIA dates

The seat is FIA 8855-1999. Its life is set by the label on the seat itself, normally five years from manufacture with up to two more available by revalidation. The 1999 standard is not being withdrawn, whatever you may have read on a forum.

Will I fit in this seat?

FIA bucket seats are built to order, typically 3 to 7 days from the day you order. Kevlar and carbon shells take longer, so ask us if you are working to a date.

Reclining sport seats are also made to order in your chosen trim, and run to a similar timescale.
