3.2kg. That is the number that sells this seat, and it is a genuinely impressive one for a full size saloon car shell.
Tillett are straightforward about what the B9 is: identical in shape to the B8, with the difference being weight and finish. So if you have sat in a B8 and it fitted, this will fit. You are buying the construction, not a different shape. The B9 uses twin skin moulding with structural carbon fibre and epoxy resin, and it comes out gloss carbon on both the front and the back, which is worth knowing if the rear of the seat is visible in your car.
Against the B8’s 4.7kg to 4.8kg, you are saving about 1.5kg per seat for roughly £870. Whether that is good value depends entirely on what else you have already done to the car. In a stripped Elise or a hillclimb car it is easy to justify. In a road going saloon it is a lot of money for a finish, and we would rather tell you that than take the order and have you wonder later.
Widths are 43cm with the rolled edges cut off and 44.5cm with them on. The 43cm shell is the one that goes in a restricted cockpit like an Elise or an Exige.
Four integrated fixing positions built to the same specification as Tillett’s FIA approved seats, though the B9 itself is Road and Track and carries no homologation. 20 degree HANS compatible. Listed for base mount as well as side mount. Seat only. Part number B9-43C/GRP.
Will I fit in this seat?
Send us your height and waist size and we will confirm the fit. The paper dimensions only tell half the story, and our showroom team sit in these seats every day, so you get the honest answer rather than a guess from a chart.
Is this seat FIA approved?
No, this is a road and track day seat rather than a homologated competition seat. For events that require an FIA seat, look at the FIA-approved shells in the range, and ask us if you are unsure what your series needs.
What do I need to fit it to my car?
This seat takes both base and side mounting, so the fitting stack depends on which route you pick for your car. You will need the car-specific frame, and a sliding runner if you want fore-and-aft adjustment. Our guide on base mount versus side mount walks through the whole stack, and tell us your car and we will quote the full kit.
Does it work with harnesses and a HANS device?
The shell takes 6 point compatible. If you are planning the full seat, harness, and HANS setup, tell us the car and we will spec it end to end.
How do I know it will feel right, not just fit on paper?
Fair question, because makers publish widths and weights, never feel, and two seats with identical numbers can feel nothing alike in the car. We keep the ranges on display in the Nottingham showroom, you are welcome to come and sit in them, and if you cannot get to us, call and describe your build, as the team sit in these seats every day. Our head support measurements guide shows the kind of real-world data we collect.
Tillett seats are custom-made to order
