The Drift II Snap-On (part number TAK74000) is Takata’s original street harness and the 2-inch shoulder version of the range. The Drift III uses the same snap-on installation, making it a direct comparison: the only thing you gain with the Drift III is a wider shoulder strap.
The 2-inch shoulder belt is narrower across the body than the Drift III’s 3-inch. Some drivers prefer this; others find it uncomfortable over a longer session. If you already own Takata comfort pads from a previous installation, this is the important compatibility point: 2-inch pads (part number TAK78011) only fit 2-inch harnesses. If the pads are 3-inch, you need the Drift III.
Installation is snap-on: the brackets sewn into the lap belts loop over the factory eye bolt anchors and secure with pull-up adjusters. Shoulder brackets are removable to route the shoulder straps over a harness bar or cage diagonal. The ASM system in the lap belt geometry prevents submarining under forward load.
Both Drift series harnesses carry ECE R16.04 and FMVSS 209 approval. They are legal as primary restraints on public roads in the UK. They are not FIA approved. For events where the regulations require a specific FIA approval code, see the Race 4 (part number 71000).
The bolt-on equivalent is TAK74001, using bendable stainless steel brackets at the factory seat belt floor anchors rather than the eye bolts. Choose bolt-on if your eye bolt anchors are not accessible or if you want a cleaner install that does not rely on eye bolt condition.
Available in black or racing green webbing. For the wider shoulder option: Takata Drift III Snap-On Harness. Comfort pads for 2-inch straps: Takata 2 Inch Comfort Pads.
