Support Your Veterans With Mission Motorsport Harnesses

Harness news, March 2020

We have added a set of FIA harness belts carrying Mission Motorsport branding to the range: a 4 point, a 6 point and a 6 point made for use with a HANS device.

For every one of these belts we sell, we are giving 5% of the profit to Mission Motorsport, the Forces' motorsport charity. So if you need a harness this season anyway, this is an easy way to help the veterans the charity works with.

  • Three belts: 4 point, 6 point and 6 point HANS
  • Each carries Mission Motorsport branding on the shoulder straps
  • 5% of the profit on every belt sold goes to Mission Motorsport
  • Mission Motorsport is a registered charity, number 1146159
  • Choice of black, blue or red webbing

Who Mission Motorsport are

Mission Motorsport describes itself as the Forces’ motorsport charity. It uses motorsport and the motor industry to help people whose lives have been affected by military service, with a particular focus on the wounded, injured and sick. That means days at the circuit, driving and team roles, and routes into work in the motor industry.

At the time of writing, the charity says it has helped more than 2,000 wounded, injured or sick beneficiaries, and has delivered over 5,000 days of sporting opportunities to people who are otherwise hard to reach. It lists the Royal Foundation, the Armed Forces Covenant and the Endeavour Fund among its supporters, and it is growing every year.

The three belts

All three are clip-in harnesses with an aircraft style buckle, and they come in black, blue or red webbing with the Mission Motorsport logo on the shoulder straps.

The 4 point has 3 inch shoulder and lap straps and is approved to FIA 8854-1998. The 6 point has 3 inch shoulder and lap straps with twin sub straps, approved to FIA 8853-2016. The 6 point HANS belt has 2 inch shoulder straps, which sit better on a HANS device, with 3 inch lap straps, also approved to FIA 8853-2016.

Which one to go for

Start with your championship’s regulations. They usually say how many points the harness needs and which FIA standard it must meet, and that settles most of the decision. If the rules ask for a 6 point, the question is whether you run a HANS or other head and neck restraint. If you do, the 2 inch shoulder straps of the HANS belt are the ones to look at.

A 4 point is the simpler belt for track day and club use where the rules allow it. Whatever you choose, the mounting matters as much as the belt: shoulder straps want to run back from the seat at roughly shoulder height, and our guide on how to fit a motorsport harness covers the angles and anchor points. If you are weighing up the layouts, 4 point vs 6 point goes through the differences.

Garreth’s advice is simple: check the rulebook first, then tell us the car and the seat, and we will make sure the belt suits both.

We give 5% of the profit on every Mission Motorsport harness belt we sell to Mission Motorsport.

It is the Forces’ motorsport charity, using motorsport and the motor industry to help people affected by military service, particularly the wounded, injured and sick.
