What Fibreglass Bucket Seats Fit In A Honda S2000?
Seat fitting guide: Honda S2000
The Honda S2000 is a brilliant car to drive, but its cockpit is small, and that makes choosing a fibreglass bucket seat harder than in most cars. The space between the transmission tunnel and the door is tight, so a seat that suits a hot hatch can simply be too wide.
We have fitted seats to plenty of S2000s, and one lesson in particular shapes our advice: the width of the seat's base is what decides it. Here is what we learned, the seats we recommend, and how to mount them on the AP1 and AP2.
- The S2000 cockpit is narrow: base width is the measurement that matters
- Seats with a base wider than about 500mm tend to hit the door cards
- Our S2000 picks come from Recaro, OMP and Sparco
- M2 Motorsport make direct fit frames for the AP1 and the AP2
- M2 frames bolt to the factory mounting points with no drilling
- Side mount seats need 290mm side mount spacing to go straight on

Why the S2000 limits your choice
The S2000 is a small two seat roadster with a high transmission tunnel, and the floor between the tunnel and the door card is narrow. A seat has to fit in that space and still sit centrally behind the wheel.
We learned where the line is from a customer who fitted a Mirco GT fibreglass seat to an S2000. It is a good seat, but its base is wider than 500mm, and in the S2000 that meant it sat too far to one side and touched the door card. From that, our rule of thumb is that a seat with a base width of more than 500mm is likely to touch the interior panels of an S2000.
To fit properly, without cutting trim or taking the door cards off, the seat needs to stay within that width. Check the base width, not the shoulder width, because the base is what sits between the tunnel and the door.
Recaro seats for the S2000
Recaro Pole Position ABE. A road approved glass fibre shell for use with the standard three point belt, and a good choice for an S2000 that is driven every day with the odd track day.
Recaro Pole Position FIA. The competition version, approved to FIA 8855-1999, for circuit use with a harness.
Recaro Profi SPG. An FIA 8855-1999 seat with a taller shell, suited to taller drivers, and lighter and narrower than the Pro Racer SPG.

OMP and Sparco seats for the S2000
OMP RT. An FIA 8855-1999 seat in fibreglass or carbon, with a compact base. OMP give its seat base width as 460mm for the fibreglass shell and 415mm for the carbon, comfortably inside the S2000’s limit.
Sparco Rev QRT. The narrower of Sparco’s QRT side mount seats, and an easy fit.
Sparco Evo QRT. The standard width Evo, an FIA side mount seat that suits spirited road driving and track work.
Sparco Grid Q. An FIA side mount seat designed with compact cockpits in mind.
Sparco Pro 2000 QRT. A light QRT shell that can be side or base mounted.

Choosing for your size
Fitting the car is only half of it: the seat has to fit you too. Our listings put most of these seats in the band for a 32 to 36 inch waist. The Recaro Pole Position seats are listed for drivers under six feet, and the Profi SPG for taller drivers. The S2000 also has limited headroom with the roof up, so a tall driver should look closely at how high the seat sits on its frame.
Garreth’s advice is to send us your height and waist size along with whether the car is an AP1 or AP2, and we will narrow the list down before you buy. You are welcome to try seats in our showroom too.
Installing bucket seats in an S2000
We recommend M2 Motorsport direct fit frames. Each one replaces the factory runners, bolts to the original floor mounting points with no drilling, and has the sliding runner and side mounts built in, so you need only the seat and the frame. They take seats with the standard 290mm side mount spacing.
There are separate frames for the two versions of the car. The AP1 (1999 to 2003) and the AP2 (2003 to 2009) each have their own frame, and you choose driver or passenger side on the listing, or buy the pair.
Two notes. Corbeau side mount seats now use M10 fixings, while M2 frames are drilled for M8, so the holes need drilling out slightly for M10: a small modification rather than a straight bolt-on, so ask us if you are unsure. And after fitting, check where the standard seat belt buckle sits beside the new seat before you drive.

What is the widest seat base that fits a Honda S2000?
In our experience, a seat with a base wider than about 500mm is likely to touch the door cards.
Which fibreglass bucket seats fit an S2000?
We recommend the Recaro Pole Position ABE and FIA, Recaro Profi SPG, OMP RT, and Sparco Rev QRT, Evo QRT, Grid Q and Pro 2000 QRT.
Do I need different frames for the AP1 and AP2?
Yes. M2 Motorsport make a separate direct fit frame for each.
Do M2 frames need drilling in an S2000?
No. They bolt to the car’s factory floor mounting points.
Will a Corbeau seat fit on an M2 S2000 frame?
Not straight on any more. Corbeau side mount seats now use M10 fixings, while M2 frames are drilled for M8, so the holes need drilling out slightly for M10. It is a small modification; ask us if you are unsure.

S2000 rule of thumbKeep the base under 500mm
A narrow based bucket on an M2 frame is the tidy way to seat an S2000.
