Top 5 Bucket Seats For Your Toyota Chaser, Including The Mounting

Top 5, Toyota Chaser

A Chaser is a big saloon with a big cabin, and the people who drive them are often not small. That changes which of our bucket seats is the right answer, so this list is ordered by shell width and price, not by what looks best in photographs.

The other half of the job is what the seat bolts to, and on a Chaser that depends entirely on your chassis code. There are two good routes and one gap, and it is better to know which you are in before you choose a seat than after.

  • All five are FIA 8855-1999, fibreglass, fixed back and HANS friendly
  • Ordered by shell width: the Sparco Evo XL is the widest we stock, not the Evo L
  • JZX100: covered twice over, by the Planted SB418 bracket and by BRIDE vehicle-specific rails
  • JZX90 and JZX110: we have nothing listed, so those need a conversation before you buy a seat
  • The Planted bracket is a fixed base. If you want the seat to slide, the BRIDE rail is the route
  • Every seat here is side mount, so side mounts are part of the price, not an afterthought

The JZX100. Pick the seat for your shoulders, then pick the mounting for your chassis code.

Start with your chassis code, not the seat

Chaser is a model name that covers four quite different cars, and what we can bolt a seat to varies between them. Toyota never sold any of them here, so the registration tells us nothing useful. The chassis number does.

ChassisYearsWhat we can mount it on
JZX1001996 to 2000Planted SB418 bracket, or a BRIDE vehicle-specific sliding rail
JZX811988 to 1992Planted SB123, listed under Cressida, same family in Japan
JZX901992 to 1996Nothing listed. Ring us before buying a seat
JZX1102001 to 2004Nothing listed. Ring us before buying a seat

The Cresta and the Mark II are the same car under other names, so they follow the same rows.

If yours is a JZX90It is the one Chaser we cannot point at an off-the-shelf bracket, and it is a common car, so this comes up. Do not order a seat on the assumption that the mounting will sort itself out. Send us the chassis number and photographs of the floor with the seat out, and we will tell you honestly whether it is a fabrication job or whether something else fits.

The two mounting routes on a JZX100

Planted SB418 bracket

A steel base that bolts to the factory floor points, £224.95 inc VAT a side, driver and passenger both listed. The seat sits on it through side mounts. It does not slide, so set your position once and bolt it there. Best if you are the only driver.

BRIDE Super Seat Rail

A genuine BRIDE rail made for the Chaser Tourer V, bolting to the same original floor points, from £276.00 inc VAT a seat. This one has the slide built in, so the seat still adjusts. One rail per seat, and you pick the side at order.

That is the honest difference between them. The Planted route costs less and puts the seat where you decide to put it. The BRIDE route costs more and keeps the fore-aft adjustment, which matters if the car gets shared, or if it is still driven on the road as well as at events. Both bolt to what is already in the floor.

Side mounts go between, on either route

All five seats below are side mount shells, which means they pick up through holes in their sides, not through their base. The side mount is the bracket that connects the shell to whatever is on the floor, and it is not usually in the box with the seat.

The 90 degree mount is the default and suits most fitments. The offset version moves the seat further inboard or outboard, which on a car with a transmission tunnel like this one is worth knowing about before you order. If you are going in alongside a cage, say so, because that is exactly when the offset earns its money.

The five seats, narrowest to widest

Every one of these is FIA 8855-1999 homologated, fibreglass, fixed back and HANS friendly, so the approval and the construction are not what separates them. Width and money are.

OMP Champ-R: the value pick

  • From £381.60 inc VAT, single seat
  • 32 to 36 inch waist, drivers under 6ft
  • Removable lumbar and leg support, which also makes it easy to clean
  • Medium side bolsters, five harness slots
  • The cheapest way into a proper FIA shell in this car

Mirco GT: the one people buy on looks and keep on comfort

  • From £459.60 inc VAT in vinyl and velour with diamond stitching
  • 32 to 36 inch waist, all heights
  • Integrated headrest, no lateral head support
  • Sold in a long list of trims, so the car can look like yours
  • Sits between the OMP and the Sparcos on both width and price

Sparco Pro 2000 QRT: the flexible one

  • From £599.40 inc VAT, single seat
  • 32 to 36 inch waist, all heights
  • The only seat here that takes base mounting as well as side mounting
  • Base pattern is the common 345mm x 271mm, so it keeps other options open later
  • Six point harness compatible

Sparco Evo L QRT: the large shell

  • From £612.00 inc VAT, single seat
  • The large-shell Evo, wider at shoulder and hip than the standard Evo QRT
  • Waist and height are not published on this listing, so try one if you can
  • Velour trim, QRT fibreglass shell, four and six point compatible
  • The seat most Chaser owners end up in

Sparco Evo XL QRT: the widest we stock

  • From £630.00 inc VAT, single seat
  • The wide-shell Evo, for drivers the standard shell pinches across the shoulders
  • Waist and height are not published on this listing either
  • Needs FIA steel side mounts, same as the rest of this list
  • If the Evo L is close but not quite, this is the next step for a small premium

All five: FIA 8855-1999, fibreglass, fixed back, HANS friendly. Prices are per seat.

On the two blanksSparco do not publish a waist figure for the Evo L or the Evo XL, and we would rather leave that empty than make one up. What we can tell you is the order: standard Evo, then Evo L, then Evo XL. If you are between two of them, come and sit in them, or ring and describe your build and we will talk it through.

What a pair actually costs

Worth doing the sum before you commit, because the seat is rarely the whole bill. A driver and passenger pair of Champ-Rs on Planted brackets and steel 90 degree side mounts comes to roughly £1,458 including VAT: two seats at £381.60, two brackets at £224.95 and two pairs of side mounts at £122.40.

The same pair on BRIDE rails instead is about £100 more and you keep the adjustment. Move up to Evo XLs and the seats alone add roughly £500 to either figure. None of that is meant to put you off, only to make sure the number you have in your head is the real one.

Common questions

On the X100 chassis, yes. The Chaser, the Mark II and the Cresta are the same car sold under three names, which is why the bracket is listed under Mark II and still suits a Chaser. Send us the chassis number and we will confirm it against your car before anything ships.

You need one if more than one person drives the car, or if it still does road miles. The Planted bracket does not slide, so on that route the seat is fixed where you bolt it. The BRIDE rail has the slide built in. That is the main reason to pay the difference.

Start with the 90 degree, because it suits most fitments. Go offset when the seat needs to sit further in or out than a straight mount allows, which on this car usually means a cage, a wide shell, or a door card the seat fouls on. Tell us the seat and what else is in the cabin and we will pick.

The XL. Sparco run the Evo in three widths, standard, L then XL, and the XL is the wide-shell version for drivers the standard pinches across the shoulders. The step up from the L is a small one in money, so if you are unsure, that is not much to pay for not being wedged in.

The belt still works, but where the buckle ends up changes once a bucket goes in, and that is the first thing to check before you drive it. If harnesses are the plan instead, tell us at the time of order so the belts and the seat get specced together instead of one after the other.

No. Every seat on this page is sold as a seat, and the bracket, the side mounts and any hardware are separate. That is normal for FIA shells, and it is why the costings above add them in.

What we would actually fit

On a JZX100 that does track days and the odd road trip: the Sparco Evo L on BRIDE rails, so the seat still slides for whoever else ends up driving it. That is the combination Cameron specs most often for this car. If the budget is the deciding factor, the OMP Champ-R on Planted brackets does the same safety job for a good deal less, and nobody sensible will look down on it.

If you are a bigger driver, Garreth would send you straight to the Evo XL and tell you to stop agonising, because a shell that is slightly too narrow is a seat you will quietly stop enjoying. And if your car is a JZX90, ring us first on 0115 9893488 and we will work out the mounting before you spend anything on a seat.
