The Recaro Speed Is Back For 2022
Seat news, February 2022
Recaro has announced that the Recaro Speed is back in its aftermarket seat range, and it is back on our online store to order.
The Speed was a popular entry level Recaro for many years. It is a reclining sports seat with proper side support and the classic Recaro look, and it grew out of the Recaro SR, the seat many enthusiasts know from the cars it came in from the factory.

The Speed returns
Recaro has confirmed the Speed is part of its aftermarket seat range again. For a long time it was the way into a genuine Recaro reclining sports seat, and its return gives drivers that option again alongside the Sportster CS.
Its roots are in the Recaro SR, which Recaro supplied as original equipment to a number of well known cars, including the BMW E30 M3, the Lancia Delta Integrale Evolution and the Honda Integra Type R. The Speed carries that shape into a seat you can buy new and fit to your own car.
What the Speed gives you
The Speed gives firm lateral support, with pronounced shoulder support and well defined bolsters on the cushion and backrest. The headrest is built into the backrest and carries Recaro’s familiar belt slot, which takes a four point harness.
It reclines, and the backrest has a tilt forward release on both sides, which helps anyone getting into the rear seats. It suits drivers of all heights, with a waist from 32 to 38 inches.
There are two covers. One is a hard wearing black vinyl with small non slip studs, the other a black motorsport velour with silver stitching and a silver logo. Both are understated enough to sit well in most interiors.

Fitting a Recaro Speed
The Speed is a base mount seat with a 405mm by 290mm bolt pattern, the same as the Sportster CS. That means it goes onto Recaro’s own fitting kits for your car, usually with Recaro sliding runners between the frame and the seat.
Garreth’s advice is to tell us the car before ordering, so we can confirm a frame exists for it and check the seat height against the headroom. Our guides to seat bolt patterns and fitting Recaro SR seats in a UK car explain how the Recaro pattern works.
Our Recaro reclining seat range
The Speed joins the rest of our Recaro reclining seats. The Sportster CS is the step up, with a hybrid composite shell and versions with heating or a side airbag. If you are deciding between the two, send us your height, waist and the car, and we can talk you through which suits it and how you use it.
