Brand guide / Italian styling, new to us

Simoni Racing sport seats

Simoni Racing are new on the site and they fill a gap we have had for a while. Properly styled Italian road seats, velvet and ecoleather rather than 3D mesh, reclining so you can actually live with them, and every model named after a Formula 1 driver. There are 39 lines from £215.99, and one thing about how they are priced is worth knowing before you order.

The short version

Buy the pair, always. Every one of the 18 pair listings is cheaper than two singles of the same seat, by £63.99 to £155.99 depending on the model, and that holds right across the range with no exceptions. If both seats are going in, never put two singles in the basket.

01 / The brand

Italian road seats, named after champions

Simoni Racing are an Italian styling brand and the seats are the part of their catalogue we have taken on. This is not competition equipment and it is not pretending to be. It is a road and show range, built around trim and comfort, and it looks like it comes from Italy.

The naming is a nice touch once you spot it. Jackie, Ayrton, Kimi, Jody, Damon, Jenson, Emerson, Max, Charles and Miky, all Formula 1 names, and the seat characters roughly match the eras. The Vintage models sit alongside them for classic cars and hot rods.

Trim is where the money goes: velvet, soft touch leather, ecoleather, leather with carbon look fabric and red stitching, and a studded Vintage. Most of it over a steel frame, with three FRP shells at the top for anybody wanting the weight down.

Every seat comes with universal sliders in the box. Vehicle specific brackets do not, and that is the bit to sort out with us when you order.

Jackie, Ayrton, Kimi, Jody, Damon, Jenson, Emerson, Max, Charles and Miky.

Reclining and folding

27 of the 39 recline and fold forward, which is what makes them work in a two door road car.

Sliders in, brackets out

Universal sliders are included on every one. Vehicle specific brackets are the separate part of the order.

02 / The range

Six groups to know

A short range and an easy one to read, provided you check two things: the pair price and the lever side.

01Reclining road seats

The core of the range, £250.99 to £319.99 as singles. Recline and fold forward for access to the back. Charles, Jenson, Miky, Max and Classic Black.

From £250.99Reclines and foldsSteel frame

02Left and right lever

The Jackie and the Emerson have the recline lever on one side only, so they are sold as Left Lever and Right Lever at the same price. Pick the side of the car.

03Fixed back and Vintage

Twelve seats that do not recline, from £215.99 for the Damon. The Vintage models in ecoleather, plain, black, black and red, and a studded version at £367.99.

04FRP shells

Three models on fibreglass reinforced plastic rather than a steel frame, which keeps the weight down. Ayrton fixed back £368.99, Kimi reclining £388.99, Jody £666.99.

05Heated

Five seats with a heater built in, which is rare in a sport seat. The Jackie Blue Heated at £413.99 is £129 over the plain Jackie. The Jody FRP Heated tops the range.

03 / How to choose

Four questions, and two of them save you money

A straightforward range as long as you check the two things that are easy to miss.

1

Are you buying one seat or two?

If it is two, buy the pair listing. Every one of the 18 pairs in this range is cheaper than two singles of the same seat, and the saving is consistent rather than occasional: £63.99 on a Damon, £77.99 on most of the reclining models, £95.99 on an Ayrton, £155.99 on a Jody. That is 13 to 14 per cent across the board, on the identical product. There is no version of this where two singles is the right call.

2

Does that model have a left or right lever?

Most of the range has the recline adjustment on both sides, which means one seat does the driver side or the passenger side and there is nothing to decide. The Jackie and the Emerson are the exceptions: the lever is on one side only and they are listed as Left Lever and Right Lever at the same price. Work out which hand you want to reach with, and if you are doing both seats the pair listing covers it for you.

3

Reclining or fixed back?

Twenty seven recline and fold, twelve are fixed back. In a two door car the folding matters more than people expect, because somebody has to get into the back. In a coupe or a classic where the rear seats are decorative, a fixed back Vintage or Damon looks better and holds you harder. Both are road seats, so this is about how you use the car rather than about performance.

4

Then sort the brackets out with us

Every Simoni seat comes with universal sliders in the box, which is half the job. What is not in the box is a vehicle specific mounting bracket, and you need one to bolt the seat to the floor. That is not a Simoni quirk, it is how road sport seats are normally sold, but it does catch people. Tell us the car when you order and we will put the right subframe with it.

The pair pricing on these is the thing I would tell everybody. It is not a small saving and it is not on selected models, it is every single pair in the range and it is around thirteen or fourteen per cent. Somebody put two Jackies in the basket last week at five hundred and seventy, and the pair listing was four hundred and ninety two for exactly the same two seats. Check the pair listing. It takes ten seconds and it is nearly eighty quid.

05 / Left or right lever

The two models where it matters

The Jackie and the Emerson have the recline lever on one side only, so each is listed twice at the same £284.99. Pick the version that suits the side of the car it is going in. If you are fitting both seats, the pair listing takes care of it.

From £215.99

The Damon at £215.99 is the cheapest seat in the range. The Vintage models in ecoleather suit classics, hot rods and show cars, and the Studded version at £367.99 is the one people photograph. None of these recline, so think about who is getting into the back.

07 / FRP shells and the Classic

The lighter end

Ayrton fixed back, Kimi reclining and the Jody, all on fibreglass reinforced plastic rather than a steel frame, so noticeably lighter. The Jody adds a heater and is the top single in the range. The Classic Black at £319.99 sits alongside them on a steel frame.

That pattern holds on all 18 pairs. We have listed seven here because they make the point, but there is not a model in the range where two singles beats the pair listing. If both seats are going in, the pair is the product you want, and the more expensive the seat the bigger the gap.

12 / Fitting

Four things to know before you order

These are road seats and they go in easily, provided the bracket question is sorted at the same time as the seat.

Sliders includedWhat is in the boxA universal sliders kit with every seat in the range. That is half the fitting sorted before you start.
Brackets not includedWhat is notVehicle specific mounting brackets are a separate part and you need them. Tell us the car and we will match one.

13 / Questions

Common questions about Simoni Racing seats

Who are Simoni Racing?

An Italian styling and accessory brand, and the seats are the part we carry. The range is road focused rather than competition, trimmed in velvet, leather, ecoleather and carbon look fabric, and every model is named after a Formula 1 driver: Jackie, Ayrton, Kimi, Jody, Damon, Jenson, Emerson, Max, Charles and Miky. We hold 39 lines, from £215.99 to £1,177.99.

Is the pair really cheaper than two singles?

Yes, on all 18 pairs, with no exceptions. The saving runs from £63.99 on the Damon up to £155.99 on the Jody, and sits at 13 to 14 per cent right across the range. If you are doing both seats, always buy the pair listing rather than two singles. Nothing else changes, it is the same seat twice.

Why are some seats sold as Left Lever and Right Lever?

Because on those models the recline lever is only on one side. The Jackie and the Emerson are both listed that way at the same price, so you pick the one that suits the side of the car it is going in. Most of the range, the Charles for example, has adjustment knobs on both sides, which means one seat does either side and there is nothing to choose. Read the listing title before you order.

Do they come with runners?

Universal sliders are included with every seat in the range. Vehicle specific mounting brackets are not, and you need those to bolt the seat into your car. That is the same arrangement as most road sport seats, and it is the part of the order people forget. Tell us the car and we will match a subframe to it.

What is the difference between reclining and fixed back here?

Twenty seven of the range recline and fold, and twelve are fixed back. The reclining seats fold forward as well, which matters in a two door car where somebody needs to get into the back. Fixed back seats hold you better and look more purposeful, and the Vintage and Damon models are the ones to look at there. Both are road seats, so this is comfort and access rather than competition.

What does the FRP shell change?

FRP is fibreglass reinforced plastic and it keeps the weight down against a steel framed seat. Three models use it: the Ayrton fixed back at £368.99, the Kimi reclining at £388.99 and the Jody at £666.99. They are the lightest seats in the range and they look the part, but they are still road seats rather than FIA competition shells.

Are any of them heated?

Five are, which is unusual in a sport seat. The Jackie Blue Heated is £413.99 against £284.99 for the plain Jackie, so the heater is about £129. The Jody FRP Heated is the top of the range at £666.99 as a single. If the car is a weekend classic or a convertible, it is money well spent.

Are these FIA approved?

No, and they are not meant to be. Simoni Racing seats are road and show seats, built around Italian styling, comfort and trim rather than homologation. If you need FIA 8855-1999 for a scrutineered car, the Mirco range starts at £297 and is the natural place to look instead.

Tell us the car and whether it is one seat or two

One seat or two decides which listing you want, and the car decides the bracket. Those two answers are the whole order on this brand. If you are between two trims, ring us, because the photographs do not do the velvet justice either way. Ask for Cameron.
