The message this time was a 2005 Boxster 987, standard seats out, Recaro Pole Positions in, and a simple question underneath it: what else do I need to order so the seats actually bolt in?
Less than you would think, is the answer. The Boxster is one of the easier cars we quote for this seat, because PCI Racing make a proper sliding subframe for the 987 shell and it does three jobs in one part. The short answer
One PCI Racing Boxster 987 sliding subframe and one Pole Position per side. That is the whole list. £1,325.40 including VAT for one side with the FIA seat, £2,676.00 to do both sides using the pair listing, which is cheaper than two singles.
On most cars this job is a three or four part stack: a floor bracket, then runners, then side mount brackets, then the seat. The PCI frame collapses that. It bolts to the Boxster’s standard floor points, the sliding runner is already part of it, and it stands up a pair of slotted side mount uprights that take the Pole Position’s side fixings directly. Fewer parts, fewer part numbers to get wrong, and height adjustment in the slots.

No separate side mount brackets and no separate runners on this car. If you have been quoted a four part stack for a Boxster, someone is quoting the generic route and it costs more for a worse fit.
FIA or ABE, and which suits a Boxster
The Pole Position comes in two main forms that look nearly identical across the showroom. The FIA version carries FIA 8855-1999, takes a 6-point harness and is the one competition regulations ask for. The ABE version carries the German road approval instead, is fibreglass, and is listed as 4-point compatible. Both are fixed-back side mount shells, and both are quoted for drivers under six foot with a 32 to 36 inch waist. If you are near either edge of that, call in and sit in one before ordering, because Cameron would far sooner size you in the showroom than book a return.
For a Boxster the honest question is what the car does. A road car with track days wants the ABE: it is a road-approved seat and the standard three point belt still works with it. A car with a race or sprint licence in its future wants the FIA seat, and your class regulations will confirm it. Garreth’s view on the money is that the pair listings are the quiet bargain here, because a 987 with one bucket seat and one standard seat never stays that way for long.

The other 987 frame on the site, and why it is not for this job
Search Boxster on our own site and a second frame comes up: the Cobra direct fit subframe for the 987, a touch cheaper than the PCI part. It is a flat base plate with twin runners fitted, and it is built for Cobra’s own base mounted seats.
The Pole Position cannot use it. Recaro’s side mount buckets have no base pattern underneath, so a flat plate gives them nothing to bolt to. Cobra subframes are drilled for Cobra, and this is the clearest example of the rule we repeat most on the phone lines: the frame follows the seat, never the car alone. Pick the seat first, then buy the frame that speaks its language.

Prices include VAT and were correct on 12 August 2026. The pair listings are cheaper than two singles, which is why the both-sides rows do not double the single figure.
What we would actually do
For a 2005 987 that gets driven properly and does a handful of track days a year: both sides, ABE velour pair, two PCI frames, £2,880 all in. The car keeps its road manners, the passenger gets held as well as the driver, and nothing about the install is permanent, because the frames go on the standard points and the original seats go back in exactly as they came out.
If the car is heading for sprints or club racing, swap the seats in that plan for the FIA pair and check your class regulations on harnesses before ordering anything else. Either way the frame is the same part, so nothing is wasted if the plan changes later.
Common questions
I have a 986, not a 987. Same answer?
Yes. PCI list the frame for the Boxster 986 and 987 together, and there is a separately listed 986 version of the frame as well. The seat side of the answer does not change at all.
Do I need Recaro side mount brackets as well?
Not with this frame. The uprights on the PCI subframe are the side mounts, and the seat bolts to them directly. Recaro’s separate steel and alloy bracket sets are for cars where you are building the stack from a flat floor bracket. If you order the frame and the seat from us together, Cameron checks the pairing before anything ships, so a mismatch does not get as far as your garage.
Will the seat still slide back and forward?
Yes. The slider is built into the PCI frame, so the seat adjusts for different drivers the same way the standard one did. Height and rake are set once, on the upright slots, during fitting.
Can I run a harness?
The FIA seat takes a 6-point harness and the ABE is listed as 4-point compatible. The ABE also works with the Boxster’s standard three point belt for road use. If you are adding harnesses, talk to us about anchor points for this car before buying the webbing.
Can I do just the driver’s side for now?
Plenty of people do, and the single seat listings and one frame come to £1,325.40 with the FIA seat. Worth knowing before you decide: the pair seat listings are cheaper per seat, so doing the second side later costs more overall than doing both at once.
