Grip and no glare
Alcantara is the material you find on competition seats and steering wheels, and for the same reason in both places: it grips, and it does not reflect light into your eyes.
On a headrest the grip matters less than it does lower down, so what you are mostly buying up here is the look and the way it deadens sound. It also stays cooler than leather in direct sun, which a headrest gets more of than any other panel.
The honest downside
Alcantara marks where it is touched repeatedly and it goes shiny at contact points over time. That is more of a problem on a seat base than a headrest, which is one reason it is an easier specification here.
Hair products and sun cream are what actually ruin it, and a headrest is exactly where those end up. Worth knowing before you commit.

Six materials: vinyl, vinyl and fabric, spacer fabric, leather, alcantara and leather and alcantara.
All priced the same on headrests. Elsewhere in the range alcantara sits at the top, so this is the cheapest place to specify it.
