A historic single seater cockpit often sits very close to the driver already. The shell and seat were built for a narrower generation of racing, and a driver who fits the car reasonably well may only need material in specific places rather than a complete lining of the whole cockpit. That is the application the 30-litre Real Race kit, part RE-RDK-08-030, is specified for.
Pre-1980 formula cars, early single-seaters from domestic championships and historic classes generally involve smaller cockpits than modern equivalents. There may be side sections that need building up, a base that needs raising slightly, or one bolster that is creating a pressure point. Thirty litres covers those targeted jobs without leaving a significant surplus of material. It is the second-smallest kit in the range, above the 15-litre entry-level option and below the 40-litre kit that is specified for full-infill extraction-seat single seaters.
The process: position the liner in the cockpit, settle the driver into it, then mix the poly-beads and slow-cure resin with the included black pigment and add the mix to the liner. The driver holds the correct seating position while the resin is introduced, and a vacuum pump draws through the attached valve to lock the liner to that profile during the cure. The slow cure rate is the key advantage over two-part foam: you have time to confirm the right position before the resin is committed, which matters when only specific areas of a cockpit need addressing. The vacuum pump and hose are not in the kit and are sold separately. The finished insert is covered with the included fire-retardant brushed nylon fabric, or with the Real Race spacer fabric covering for a breathable surface.
If you are not certain the 30-litre volume is enough, call us with the car and an idea of how much of the cockpit needs filling. We will advise on the right kit size. Lead time on Real Race insert kits is typically 3 to 5 working days from order.
