Sparco Sprint Bucket Seats and Takata Harnesses in a Nissan 350Z

We love seeing customer builds come together, and this Nissan 350Z is a great example of how a focused upgrade can elevate the whole driving experience. Our customer was looking for a more supportive and track-capable seating setup without sacrificing day-to-day comfort or road legality. They landed on a winning combination: Sparco Sprint fixed-back bucket seats paired with Takata Drift III 4-point road harnesses.

This setup strikes the perfect balance between performance and practicality. The Nissan 350Z is a powerful rear-wheel-drive coupe with real driving potential, especially when modified for track days or fast road use. But as many owners know, the stock seats can fall short when the driving gets more aggressive. You lose support through the corners, and it’s harder to stay planted behind the wheel. The Sparco Sprint addresses this with its deep bolsters and fixed-back design, giving you more control over the car and your body.

Combined with Takata’s Drift III harnesses, this upgrade not only transforms how the car feels in corners but also elevates the interior look. The green harness belts are an eye-catching detail that pops against the otherwise dark cabin, hinting at the car’s new purpose without being over-the-top. Together, the Sparco Sprint and Takata Drift III are an ideal pairing for the 350Z – especially for drivers who want to bridge that gap between road comfort and occasional track use without diving into a full FIA cage setup.

In this blog, we’ll cover why the Sparco Sprint was a smart choice, how the Takata Drift III harnesses complement the seats, how it all fits into the 350Z, and how installation was handled using an M2 Motorsport fitting kit.

Why Upgrade to the Sparco Sprint?

The factory seats in the 350Z offer reasonable comfort, but for drivers who enjoy regular track days or want a more secure feel during spirited driving, they can fall short. Upgrading to the Sparco Sprint adds a significant amount of lateral support and driving feedback. The fixed-back design eliminates any movement or flex that reclining seats can introduce under load, helping keep you planted through tight corners or aggressive braking.

The result? More driver confidence, reduced fatigue, and a sharper overall feel during any performance driving. Whether you’re a weekend track day enthusiast or just want your 350Z to feel more focused on the road, the Sprint is a solid step forward.

Seat Spotlight: Sparco Sprint Bucket Seat

The Sparco Sprint has earned its place as one of the most popular entry-level FIA-approved seats on the market. Built around a strong tubular steel frame, this fixed-back bucket seat is designed to meet FIA 8855-1999 standards for motorsport use, making it suitable for everything from casual track days to competitive club racing.

It features pronounced shoulder and thigh bolsters to minimise lateral movement and keep the driver securely in position under high g-forces. A grippy fabric trim covers the entire seat, and dual harness slots allow for multiple belt setups. The Sparco Sprint can be both side-mounted and base-mounted, giving you flexibility during installation.

Key Features:

  • FIA 8855-1999 approved
  • Tubular steel frame for strength and durability
  • Compatible with 5/6 point harnesses
  • Side and base mounting options
  • Compact Design
  • Durable fabric upholstery for long-term use

Dimensions and Fitment in the 350Z

One of the biggest concerns when fitting a motorsport bucket seat is cockpit clearance, especially in cars with tighter interiors or large centre consoles. Thankfully, the Sparco Sprint is a seat that works very well with the space available inside the Nissan 350Z. It’s compact enough to clear the door cards and centre tunnel, yet still offers excellent driver support thanks to its tall backrest and supportive bolstering.

The seat’s shell design doesn’t flare outward excessively at the shoulders, which is something that can cause problems in narrower interiors. In the 350Z, the Sparco Sprint fits without needing any cutting, trimming, or compromise to the rest of the cabin space. Whether you’re installing just the driver’s side or going for a pair of seats, you won’t run into any issues with them contacting each other or the trim panels.

Here are the main seat measurements to give you a clearer picture:

  • Overall Height: 860mm
  • Shoulder Width: 505mm
  • Base Width: 480mm
  • Front Fixing Width: 418mm
  • Rear Fixing Width: 418mm
  • Seat Depth: 670mm
  • Side Mount Bolt Pattern: 290mm (4xM8)

This layout makes the Sparco Sprint a solid middle ground in terms of size. It isn’t oversized, which helps for installation and clearance, but it’s also not too narrow, which means drivers with broader shoulders will still find it comfortable. We generally recommend the Sprint for drivers with a waist size up to around 34–36 inches, but it has an accommodating design thanks to its flatter lower bolster section.

Overall, the Sprint ticks all the boxes for a snug and supportive fit in the 350Z without overcomplicating the install or compromising on space.

The Takata Drift III Harness – Road Legal and Stylish

To pair with the Sparco Sprint seats, our customer chose Takata Drift III 4-point harnesses in the classic green finish. These harnesses are ECE approved, meaning they’re road legal across Europe and ideal for a road car with casual track day use.

The Drift III features 2-inch webbing across the shoulder and lap belts, with pressure-spread pads on the lap section for extra comfort. The snap-on ends make it easy to remove or install as needed, and you still get that authentic motorsport feel inside the cabin.

Harness Highlights:

  • ECE road legal approval
  • 2″ wide webbing throughout
  • Snap-on fittings for quick install/removal
  • Pressure pads for added lap belt comfort
  • Available in black or green

Installation for the Nissan 350Z

Our customer used the M2 Motorsport fitting kit designed for the Nissan 350Z. This all-in-one kit includes a vehicle-specific subframe, a sliding runner kit, and side mounts to work perfectly with side-mounted bucket seats like the Sparco Sprint.

The Sprint can also be base-mounted. If you choose this option, the base mount version of the M2 Motorsport subframe must be selected. Base mounting eliminates tilt adjustment but allows the seat to sit slightly lower, which some drivers may prefer. Side mounting provides angle adjustment and works especially well when dialing in your driving position for track use.

If you’re looking for a more hardcore fixed setup for motorsport, we also supply OMP subframes that can be used with universal side mounts. These are suited for harness installs as they don’t retain the original seat belt mounting points.

Final Thoughts – A Well-Balanced Interior for Road and Track

This customer’s Nissan 350Z setup shows how a few smart upgrades can completely transform the driving experience. The Sparco Sprint seats offer solid support and a race-inspired feel, while still being versatile enough for everyday use. Paired with Takata Drift III harnesses and the M2 Motorsport fitting kit, the entire setup works seamlessly together to deliver comfort, control, and safety on the road and track.

Whether you’re aiming to refresh a tired interior or prepping your 350Z for regular track days, this combination strikes a great balance. It’s functional, well-built, and enhances both the aesthetics and ergonomics of the cabin.
