Ferrari 360 bucket seat guide

Ferrari 360 Modena and Spider, 1999 to 2005

The Ferrari 360 was the first Ferrari built on an aluminium spaceframe, which made it lighter and stiffer than the F355 it replaced. That fact matters when you are fitting a bucket seat, because the spaceframe is not something you cut into or drill through. Both of the fitting frames in this guide bolt to the factory mounting points that are already in the floor. Nothing extra is done to the car.

That matters here more than it does on most cars. A 360 missing its original seats is a harder car to sell, and the original interior is part of what the car is worth. The fitting frame lets you lift the standard seats back in whenever you want to, and in most cases that is the reason the modification is worth making at all.

The car was built between 1999 and 2005. Both the Modena coupe and the Spider convertible use the same floor mounting points, so the frames listed here cover both body styles.

Mounting

Two mounting options cover most Ferrari 360 installations. The Cobra Direct Fit Subframes bolt to the factory floor points and include a sliding runner in the price. That is unusual: Sparco, Planted, OMP, Recaro and Corbeau all sell the runner separately. The Cobra frame is compatible with Cobra base-mountable bucket seats and reclining sport seats.

The Planted Technology SB159 is the alternative base-mount frame. Part number SB159 is specific to the 360. The F430 takes SB155 and the two cars look similar enough that the wrong frame gets ordered occasionally. Planted ask you to talk to them before you order: tell them what the car is, what you are using it for, and what seat you have in mind, and they will work the installation through with you. Given the car, that conversation is worth having regardless.

If you want a side-mount setup, the Endurance Motorsport Multi Point M8 side brackets handle that. Side mounting gets the seat a little lower and gives you some angle adjustment. The sliding runner kit is separate if you want fore-aft travel on a side-mount installation.

Keep the original seats stored properlyOnce the frame is in, store the original seats flat and dry with their fixings. On a 360 they are worth serious money in their own right. A car without its original seats is a harder sale whatever is fitted in their place, and keeping them means the car goes back to standard whenever you want it to.

Competition bucket seats

The seats below are FIA 8855-1999 competition shells. All are side-mount or dual-mount. They work with the Endurance Motorsport side brackets or, where the seat also has a base mount option, with the Cobra or Planted frame.

The Sabelt GT3 has been fitted in customer 360s and clears the cockpit. If you are considering a different shell, check its width against the GT3 before ordering. The interior of the 360 is not unusually tight, but a shell that is substantially wider or taller will need to be verified against cockpit clearance rather than assumed to fit.

The Cobra Monaco 40th Edition at the bottom of the list is sold as a pair, with White Stitch graphics. It carries FIA 8855-1999 approval and is dual-mount, so it works with both side brackets and a base mount frame.

The Sparco Evo L QRT is the large-shell version of the Evo QRT. If the standard Evo fits the cockpit, the Evo L will be tighter. For a driver who needs the extra volume, check with us before ordering.

The Mirco GT Velour at £317 and the OMP Champ-R at £318 are the entry point: both FIA-rated, both side-mount, both in the cockpit on a standard installation with the Endurance M8 brackets. The Sabelt GT3 at £431 is the verified fit here, confirmed across customer cars. For a driver who wants a carbon-mix shell without the top price, the Sparco Rev QRT at £345 is the mid-range option. If you want the Cobra frame and base-mount installation to go alongside, the Cobra Monaco 40th Edition covers both: it is dual-mount and comes as a pair. If you want to talk through which shell makes sense for how you use the car, contact us and we will work it out with you.

Cobra Misano Anniversary

The Cobra Misano Anniversary is a reclining sport seat built specifically for the Ferrari 360, part number COBMIS-ANN-360. It fits on the Cobra Direct Fit Subframes using the factory mounting points. Nothing is cut. The base mount is 291mm x 330mm and 4-point harness slots are included.

It is a recliner rather than a fixed bucket, and that choice is deliberate. Most 360s spend more time on the road than on track, and a fixed competition shell changes the character of the car in ways that do not suit that kind of use: harder to get in and out, less comfortable over distance, and a visual compromise in a cabin finished to this standard. The Misano gives serious lateral support while keeping the car pleasant to drive properly.

The seat is 885mm tall, 590mm wide and 620mm deep on a 520mm base, at 11.5kg. It is hand-trimmed in the UK in leather, any one or two colour combination with matching or contrasting stitching, diamond quilting and a carbon backrest. The frame is fibreglass at the back and steel at the base. Made to order with a four to six week lead time.

It carries Road and Track approval rather than FIA homologation. For track-day use at a club or open-pitlane day that is straightforward. FIA-rated events require a competition shell from the section above.

The Challenge Stradale came with carbon shells from the factory. If the car is a Challenge Stradale and the factory shells are present, they are worth considerably more than any aftermarket option in this guide. Talk to us before doing anything with them.

💬
The seat made for this carWhen the Misano is the right choice

The Misano is for a 360 that is primarily a road car with occasional track days. It is the only seat in this guide built specifically for this car, on the factory base mount points with nothing drilled or modified. If the car is going to serious track events where FIA equipment is mandatory, one of the shells above is the correct route instead. For anything in between, talk to us: the fit and the specification depend on how the car is being used, and the Misano is made to order so the trim specification gets sorted at the same time as the technical details. Cameron figures out the right seat and specification for each car before anything is confirmed.

What fits

All seats below work with a 360 on the Endurance M8 side brackets (side-mount seats) or the Cobra Direct Fit Subframes or Planted SB159 where the seat has a base-mount option.

Common questions

There are two base-mount options: the Cobra Direct Fit Subframes (13943) and the Planted Technology SB159 (18064). Both bolt to the factory floor mounting points with nothing cut or drilled. The Cobra frame includes a sliding runner in the price. The Planted SB159 requires a conversation before ordering so they can confirm the seat and installation setup. For side mounting, the Endurance Motorsport M8 brackets work independently of those frames.

Not with the Cobra Direct Fit Subframes. They include a sliding runner in the price. With the Planted SB159, OMP, Sparco and most other brand-specific frames, the runner is a separate item. The Endurance Motorsport sliding runner kit (21512) covers that.

SB159 is the Planted Technology seat bracket for the Ferrari 360, 1999 to 2005. The F430 takes SB155. The two cars look similar enough that the wrong part gets ordered occasionally, so it is worth checking the part number before buying. Planted ask you to talk to them before ordering so they can confirm the seat and usage are a good match for this installation.

Yes. The GT3 has been fitted in customer 360s. It is the seat we use as a reference point for cockpit clearance in this guide. Seats that are significantly wider or taller than the GT3 need checking before ordering.

It is a reclining sport seat, not a fixed competition shell. It is made specifically for the Ferrari 360 and uses the factory base mount points with nothing drilled. It carries Road and Track approval rather than FIA homologation, so it works for track days and open-pitlane events but not for FIA-rated competition.

The Cobra Direct Fit Subframes description covers Cobra base-mountable bucket seats and reclining sport seats. Whether other brands on the Sparco, OMP and Corbeau 345mm x 271mm base-mount bolt pattern fit the Cobra Ferrari-specific subframe is not confirmed. Talk to us before ordering a non-Cobra seat onto the Cobra frame.

Store them flat and dry with their fixings. On a 360 the original seats are worth serious money in their own right, and a car without them is harder to sell. The fitting frames use the factory mounting points with nothing modified, so the original seats go straight back in whenever you want them to.

The Challenge Stradale came with carbon shells from the factory. Those shells are worth considerably more than any aftermarket option in this guide. If the car is a Challenge Stradale and the original shells are present, talk to us before doing anything with them.

For a 4-point harness with shoulder straps, yes, the shoulder strap attachment points need to be behind the seat at approximately shoulder height. A roll cage or harness bar provides that. This guide does not list harnesses because the 360 does not have factory harness mounting points, and fitting one without the right cage setup is not safe. Talk to us if you are planning a full cage build.

The Cobra Misano Anniversary is made for exactly that setup. It is a recliner on the factory base mount points, Road and Track approved, hand-trimmed in leather to your specification. For a car that is primarily road-driven, it makes more sense than a fixed FIA shell. Contact us to discuss the specification.
