Customer Car: Subaru Impreza With Corbeau RRS Seats and Planted Technology Brackets

One of our customers recently upgraded their Subaru Impreza with a pair of Corbeau RRS reclining sport seats paired with Planted Technology seat brackets. This setup is a fantastic choice for anyone looking to bridge the gap between everyday comfort and enhanced driver engagement. Whether you’re building a fast-road machine or a weekend track toy, this combination delivers real improvements in seat positioning, support, and control without compromising the day-to-day usability that the Impreza is known for.

The Impreza’s factory seats are decent for daily use, but they can feel flat and unsupportive when pushing on during back-road blasts or casual track events. By switching to the Corbeau RRS, our customer now benefits from deep shoulder and torso support, a lower seating position, and better feedback from the car. Combined with the Planted Technology brackets, this setup bolts in securely and cleanly without requiring any modifications to the interior.

In this blog, we’ll take a closer look at why the Corbeau RRS is such a great fit for the Subaru Impreza, how the seats and brackets work together, and what other options you might want to consider when upgrading your Impreza’s interior.

Why Choose the Corbeau RRS for the Subaru Impreza?

The Subaru Impreza, across all generations, has always had a strong motorsport heritage. But for many owners, full FIA bucket seats are too extreme for regular use. That’s where the Corbeau RRS shines. It offers serious side and shoulder support with the convenience of a reclining backrest, making it ideal for performance road use, fast road builds, or light track days.

It’s also a great fit for Impreza owners who want to upgrade their seating position and feedback without needing to make changes to their interior trim. The RRS slots in perfectly and brings a sharp, race-ready look while staying road friendly.

The Corbeau RRS Reclining Seat in Detail

The Corbeau RRS strikes an ideal middle ground between comfort and support. Its high shoulder bolsters help hold your upper body firmly in place during hard cornering, and the optional deep leg bolsters give you extra hold during braking and lateral load. Large harness slots give it a true motorsport aesthetic while allowing you to run harness belts if desired.

Key seat features:

  • Steel frame construction
  • Dual-sided reclining lever system
  • High-profile side bolsters for upper-body stability
  • Optional deep leg bolsters for increased lower-body support
  • Large harness slots
  • Low or standard base options for seat height tuning

The reclining mechanism is solid and easy to use, while the frame and padding are tuned for performance and long-distance comfort.

Seat Dimensions and Fitment for the Impreza

The Corbeau RRS has a very open and accommodating design, making it suitable for drivers of all sizes. Its overall dimensions ensure comfort without compromising cabin space. The most important figures to note are the external measurements, as these determine whether the seat will fit your vehicle correctly.

Corbeau RRS Key Dimensions:

  • (Base Width): 490mm
  • (Seat Depth): 590mm
  • (Seat Height): 930mm
  • (Harness Hole Height): 260mm
  • (Inner Base Width): 370mm
  • (Shoulder Width): 550mm
  • (Bolster Height): 280mm

The Corbeau RRS has a balanced shape that fits neatly into most vehicles, including all generations of the Subaru Impreza. The design doesn’t interfere with door cards or centre consoles, and the wide backrest allows for a broad range of body types. Its optional flat base gives even more space for larger drivers.

Why Choose the Low Base Option

The low base version of the Corbeau RRS doesn’t change how high or low you sit in the car, but it does change the shape of the seat base. Instead of the more aggressive raised leg bolsters found on the standard version, the low base offers a flatter, more open base area. This is ideal for drivers who need extra room at the thighs or prefer easier entry and exit without being cupped in as tightly.

If you’re after more comfort and flexibility rather than firm lower-body support, the low base is the better choice. It still provides excellent upper-body hold and keeps the same overall seat dimensions, just with a more forgiving lower cushion design. This option is especially useful for broader drivers or those using their Impreza more for daily driving than track work.

This setup is ideal for drivers who prefer a more ergonomic seating position or for those who regularly climb in and out of their vehicle throughout the day. It’s worth noting that the low base option is available across Corbeau’s full range of reclining sports seats, so if you like the idea of a flatter base design, you’ll find multiple styles to choose from.

Installation in the Subaru Impreza

Our customer installed the Corbeau RRS into a second-gen Subaru Impreza using Planted Technology fitting brackets. These vehicle-specific frames are designed to match the Impreza’s factory floor bolt points exactly, so no cutting or fabrication is needed.

Each Planted frame features all three major bolt patterns, including:

  • 345mm wide (used by Corbeau, Sparco, OMP, and more)
  • 291mm narrow (used by Cobra seats)
  • 405mm wide (for XL bucket seats)

Since the Corbeau RRS uses both 345mm and 291mm bolt patterns, it lines up directly with the Planted Technology bracket. Add in a sliding runner kit for adjustability, or bolt the seat straight to the frame for a fixed setup. Either way, it’s a solid, secure installation with great flexibility.

Why the Corbeau RRS Suits the Impreza

The Impreza has always encouraged spirited driving, and the Corbeau RRS enhances that feeling without going over the top. It’s supportive enough for track days but still practical for everyday driving. Paired with a direct-fit Planted Technology frame, it installs cleanly into any Impreza without hassle.

For owners who want more feedback from the chassis, a lower seating position, and better lateral hold, this seat setup is a huge step up from stock.

Final Thoughts: A Perfect Match for Road and Track

The Corbeau RRS and Planted Technology bracket combination brings the best of both worlds to the Subaru Impreza. It’s a big upgrade in comfort and support with the flexibility of a recliner. The install is straightforward, and the end result is a cabin that feels tighter, more connected, and more purposeful.

If you’re looking to elevate your driving experience without giving up daily usability, this pairing is worth serious consideration. Visit us in-store or online to explore your options and see why so many Impreza owners are making the switch.
