Custom Cages Ford Escort Roll Cages
Custom Cages, Ford Escort
The Ford Escort is one of the most caged cars in British club motorsport. Twenty-two kits across the Mk1, Mk2, Mk3, Mk4, RS2000, Mk6 RS2000 and Cosworth, with T45 and CDS across most of the range and one bolt-in option on the Mk2. Cameron has been through every listing on this page. The kits start at £1,027 for the RS2000 CDS and run to £1,914 for the Mk2 2020 Spec T45.
This guide covers the Escort line only. The Fiesta, Focus, Sierra and the classic Ford range each have their own Custom Cages kits and their own guide as the programme reaches them.
- 22 kits: 8 for the Mk1, 5 for the Mk2, 3 for the Mk3 and Mk4, 4 for the RS2000 variants and 2 for the Cosworth
- Starts at £1,027 (RS2000 CDS), runs to £1,914 (Mk2 2020 Spec T45)
- The Mk1 has the most choice in the range: door bar shape, cage level and steel all need settling before you order
- The Mk2 is the only Escort chassis with a bolt-in kit in the range
- All 22 kits are UK made by Custom Cages

Bolt-in or weld-in
Bolt-in (Mk2 only)
One kit in the Escort range installs without a welder: the Mk2 Bolt-In at £1,240. Hand tools, no fabricator. Every other kit in the range is weld-in.
Weld-in T45
Available across all seven chassis variants. Once you are building for a serious stage rally or national circuit championship this is typically where the range takes you. Needs a fabricator to fit.
Weld-in CDS
Available on six of the seven chassis: Mk1, Mk2, Mk3, RS2000, Mk6 RS2000 and Cosworth. The Mk4 is T45 only. CDS meets the Motorsport UK published specification and is the right starting point for most club and historic builds.
The Mk1 range
Eight kits and three things to settle before you order: the door bar shape on the Historic kits, the cage level (Historic or International), and the steel (CDS or T45). The door bar choice (bent bars or straight bars with a sill bar) matters if your championship specifies one layout. If you are not sure, tell Cameron the event and he will check the regs before you commit to an order.
| Kit family | Steel | Price (inc VAT) |

International and Multipoint kits
The Mk2 range
Five kits, the widest choice of any chassis in this guide. The bolt-in is here, alongside four weld-in T45 options. The 2020 Spec Multipoint at £1,914 is the most expensive kit in the Escort range. Garreth’s view is that it is worth the extra for a serious stage rally build, but for most club use the standard Multipoint T45 at £1,581 or the International at £1,674 covers what you need.
| Kit | Steel | Price (inc VAT) |
|---|---|---|
| Bolt-In | Steel not stated in title | £1,240 |
| T45 Multipoint | T45 | £1,581 |
| Classic T45 | T45 | £1,674 |
| International Multipoint T45 | T45 | £1,674 |
| 2020 Spec Multipoint T45 | T45 | £1,914 |
The bolt-in kit does not list a steel specification in its title. Ask Cameron if the steel matters for your class. Prices include VAT.
Mk3 and Mk4
Two kits for the Mk3, CDS Multipoint at £1,066 and T45 Multipoint at £1,462. One kit for the Mk4, T45 Multipoint at £1,462. The Mk4 is T45 only in this range. Ring 0115 9893488 if you are building a Mk4 and need to know whether a CDS option is available to order.
| Chassis | Steel | Price (inc VAT) |
|---|---|---|
| Mk3 Multipoint | CDS | £1,066 |
| Mk3 Multipoint | T45 | £1,462 |
| Mk4 Multipoint | T45 | £1,462 |
Prices include VAT.
RS2000 and Mk6 RS2000
Two different cars. The RS2000 section covers the Mk1 and Mk2-era performance variant from the 1970s, in CDS at £1,027 and T45 at £1,464. The Mk6 RS2000 is the 1990s model, both in CDS International and T45 Multipoint at £1,674. If you are not sure which chassis your car is, ring 0115 9893488 and Cameron will point you at the right kit.
RS2000 (Mk1 and Mk2 era)
Mk6 RS2000
Escort Cosworth
Two kits: CDS Multipoint at £1,182 and International Multipoint T45 at £1,674. Tell Cameron the championship you are building for and he will confirm which kit is the right call before you order.
The Escort range covers historic one-make through to national stage rally and circuit racing, and the right kit depends on the chassis and the championship as much as the steel choice. Ring 0115 9893488 or use the contact page and Cameron will confirm the exact kit and steel before you order.
Common questions about the Escort range
What is the difference between the Historic and Multipoint kits on the Mk1?
Custom Cages name their Historic kits for cars competing in period-correct and historic classes. The Mk1 Historic kits also carry a door bar choice, bent bars or straight bars with a sill bar, which some championships specify. Multipoint is the more common route for modern club use on the Mk1. Tell Cameron the class and he will confirm which type fits, and which door bar shape the regs want if it is a historic build.
Should I choose CDS or T45 for an Escort cage?
For most club rally, sprint and circuit builds, CDS built to the Motorsport UK published specification is the right starting point. T45 earns its place once you are building for a championship that asks for a higher-spec cage, or where the specific kit you need comes only in T45. Our T45 vs CDS guide covers the decision in full.
Can I install the Mk2 bolt-in without a fabricator?
Yes. It fits with hand tools and no welding, which is what bolt-in means across the Custom Cages range. If the championship changes later and you need a weld-in kit on the Mk2, there are four more to choose from on this page.
Is the RS2000 listed here the 1970s car or the 1990s Mk6?
Both are covered, in separate sections. The RS2000 heading covers the Mk1 and Mk2-era RS2000. The Mk6 RS2000 is listed below it. If you are not sure which your car is, ring 0115 9893488 and Cameron will sort it out.
What Escort chassis are not covered on this page?
This page covers the Escort kits in the Custom Cages range: Mk1, Mk2, Mk3, Mk4, RS2000, Mk6 RS2000 and Cosworth. The Fiesta, Focus, Sierra and classic Ford range (Capri, Anglia, Cortina and Mustang) have their own kits and will get their own guides as the programme runs. Ring 0115 9893488 in the meantime and Garreth can tell you what is available now.
Where this leads
For the steel decision on its own, our T45 vs CDS roll cage steel guide covers what the Motorsport UK specification actually requires and where T45 earns its price over CDS. The Custom Cages BMW E30 and E36 guide is live if you have a BMW build alongside an Escort project. The full Custom Cages range covers everything else we hold.
Ring 0115 9893488 and Cameron will go through the chassis, the class and the steel with you.
