A Perfect Fit: Recaro Profi SPG Seat, PCI Adjustable Mounts, and Schroth Harnesses in a Honda S2000
Customer car, November 2024
One of our customers has just finished fitting out their Honda S2000, and it is a tidy example of how precise a seat install can be. The car now has Recaro Profi SPG FIA bucket seats on PCI Racing adjustable mounts, with Schroth Profi II-FE ASM harnesses.
The S2000 is a tight car to seat properly: the roof is low, many have a roll bar behind the seats, and there is not much room around the seat. Here is what went in, and how the customer got the seat to sit low while clearing the trim by millimetres.
- Car: Honda S2000, with a blue roll cage
- Seats: Recaro Profi SPG, FIA 8855-1999, fibreglass shell, around 6.5kg
- Mounts: PCI Racing S2000 AP1/AP2 adjustable seat mounts
- Harnesses: Schroth Profi II-FE ASM, FIA 8854-1998 and road approved
- The seats sit on the second lowest setting to clear a bulge in the seat base
- The finished seats clear the interior trim by millimetres

The setup
Three parts make up this install, each chosen for a reason. The seat gives the hold, the mounts set the height, and the harness does the restraint. In an S2000 the height is the hard part, because a driver in a helmet has to fit under both the roof and the roll bar.
Recaro Profi SPG
The Profi SPG is Recaro’s entry into their FIA homologated race seats, approved to FIA 8855-1999. The shell is glass fibre reinforced plastic at around 6.5kg, lighter and narrower than the Pro Racer SPG, which makes it a natural fit for a small car. It has a friction grip surface at the shoulders, belt guides for four, five and six point harnesses, and a geometry that works with a head and neck restraint. Recaro position it as a rally seat, but it works on circuit too.
It is a side mount seat, so it needs side mounts or a side mount frame underneath; the PCI mounts do that job here.
PCI Racing S2000 adjustable seat mount
PCI make this mount for the S2000 AP1 and AP2, 1999 to 2010. It is their adjustable mount, which gives the widest range of adjustment and the lowest seat position in their range, and that is exactly what an S2000 needs. It bolts to the factory seat mounting points, so nothing is drilled.
It is laser cut and formed from one piece of 1/8 inch carbon steel, powder coated gloss black, with grade 10.9 hardware and mounting points for five and six point sub belts built in. There is no slider: the seat position is set at fitting, though it can be changed later with one tool.

Schroth Profi II-FE ASM harnesses
The Profi II-FE ASM is the dual approval version of Schroth’s Profi II: FIA 8854-1998 for competition and ECE approval for road use, thanks to its FE push button buckle. It has 3 inch shoulder straps and a 2 inch lap belt, and Schroth’s ASM anti-submarining system, which is designed to stop the wearer sliding under the lap belt. It clips in with eye bolts supplied, and the shoulder fittings can come off for mounting straight to a roll bar. It is not HANS compatible. For a car that is driven on the road and taken on track, it covers both uses.

Getting the fit right
The detail that made this install is the seat height. The Profi SPG has a slight bulge in the base of the shell, so it would not sit flush at the lowest point on the PCI mounts. The customer set it on the second lowest position instead, which lets the base clear the mount without being pressed into it or tipping the seat at an odd angle, and still keeps the seat low.
The result is a seat that clears the S2000’s interior trim by millimetres. That is the benefit of an adjustable mount in a small car: you can try positions until the seat is as low as it can go without fouling anything.
Garreth’s advice for anyone doing the same is to set the seat position before fitting the harness, and to sit in the car wearing a helmet before the final tighten. If you are not confident with seat mounts and harnesses, have them fitted professionally.
Why it suits the S2000
The combination puts the driver low in the car, held by an FIA seat and an FIA harness that can also be used on the road. The PCI mount gets the height right without cutting the floor, and the one piece construction keeps it stiff. For a single driver S2000 used on the road and on track, it is a neat way to do it.
A similar approach works with other side mount FIA seats, but every seat’s shell is shaped a little differently, so check the seat, mount and harness together for your car before ordering.
Which seats are in this S2000?
Recaro Profi SPG FIA bucket seats, approved to FIA 8855-1999.
Why is the seat on the second lowest setting?
The Profi SPG has a slight bulge in its base, so the second lowest position lets it clear the mount while still sitting low.
Do the PCI S2000 mounts need drilling?
No. They bolt to the factory seat mounting points.
Can the Schroth Profi II-FE harnesses be used on the road?
They carry ECE road approval as well as FIA 8854-1998, thanks to the FE push button buckle.
Do the PCI adjustable mounts slide?
No. The position is set at fitting but can be changed later with one tool.
