Does The SW Motorsports BMW M2 Seat Delete Kit Fold Down?

Your questions

A customer with an M2 asked us a fair question: once the rear seats are out and the SW Motorsports seat delete kit is in, is that one solid piece, or can it fold down so you can still get to the boot from inside? Nothing published by SW answered it, so we asked Brett at SW Motorsports, who make the kit.

Garreth wanted the answer from the people who cut the panels, so here is what Brett told us on 1 October 2026.

  • Three pieces: a carpeted floor panel and two rear panels
  • The rear panels lift out: the top unclips, the bottom slides out
  • There may be a couple of screws to undo each time
  • Cut to fit around the SW Motorsports half cage, £408.44

An F87 M2 on a track day, the kind of car that ends up with a cage and no rear seats.

The short answer

It does not fold, but it does come out. The kit is three pieces: a lower panel that sits on the floor where the rear seat base and footwells were, and two upright rear panels where the seat back was.

Brett’s words on the rear panels: the top clips into the car’s rear seat release brackets and the bottom slides out. There may be a couple of screws to take out each time you want it open. So you can get through to the boot, it just takes a screwdriver, not a pull on a seat release.

Side view, not to scale. The lower panel covers the rear footwells and seat base. The two rear panels stand where the seat back was, split along the line where the cage's rear stays pass through. To take them out, undo any screws, unclip the top from the rear seat release bracket and slide the bottom out. The cage stays where it is.
The cage stays putTaking the rear panels out opens the gap to the boot, but the SW half cage stays in, including the rear stays that run back through the panels. Anything long you load has to go past the cage tubes, so if you have something in mind, a set of wheels or a bike, tell us what it is and we will talk it through.

What the kit is

SW Motorsports CNC cut the panels and 3D scan them to fit around their own bolt-in cages, so once the rear seats are out and the cage is in, there is no bare bodywork left on show. It is finished in black carpet and gives the back of the car a proper club sport look.

The kit is £408.44 for all three pieces.

The cage it goes with

The kit is made to go with the SW Motorsports half cage for the F22 2 Series and F87 M2. The cage bolts in with no welding, is made from 45mm by 2.5mm CDS tube, and comes in a range of colours.

It is from £682.00 depending on colour, and it is the cage the panels are cut around.

Living with it

Cameron’s view is that most M2s with a cage in the back are track cars first, and once the panels are in you will rarely take them out. Garreth’s is that plenty of these are still somebody’s only car, and a car you can still get to the boot from inside is worth knowing about before you commit.

Both come back to the same answer: the kit looks finished, and the back opens up when you need it to, with a screwdriver.

Common questions

No. It does not fold, but the two rear panels lift out. The top clips into the rear seat release brackets and the bottom slides out.

Possibly a screwdriver. Brett at SW says there may be a couple of screws to remove each time.

Three: a lower panel on the floor and two rear panels.

The kit is cut to fit around SW Motorsports cages. With another cage, drop us an email or click to open a chat first and we will check.

Black carpet.
