If your BMW is a 2002, 2000, CSL, E21, M6 E24 or M1, Custom Cages build twelve kits across those six models. Cameron has been through every one on this page. The range starts at £889 for a 6-point National Spec CDS on the E21 and M6 E24, and reaches £2,274 for the Historic T45 kits on the 2002 and M1.

Historic cage kits
Custom Cages build Historic-spec cages for the 2002, CSL and M1. These are weld-in kits built for the period classes those cars run in. Four kits, T45 and CDS.
Multipoint weld-in
Available on the 2002, 2000, E21 and M6 E24. T45 and CDS on most models. This is the majority of the classic BMW range.
6-point National Spec CDS
Entry-level option on the E21 and M6 E24 at £889. The starting point into the range on those two chassis if the full Multipoint is further than you need.

The 2002 range
Two kits for the 2002. The Multipoint CDS at £1,767 is a standard weld-in cage for a 2002 not running in a period class. The Historic T45 at £2,274 is Custom Cages’ cage built specifically for the 2002 in historic competition. If you are building for a specific class and are not sure which applies, ring 0115 9893488 and Cameron will check the championship specification before you order.
The Historic T45 kit pictured here is Custom Cages' period-competition cage for the 2002. Garreth's view is that the Historic kit is the one to get if the car is staying in period trim and running in a historic class. The Multipoint CDS is the more general option for everything else.

The E21 range
Two kits for the E21. The 6-point National Spec CDS at £889 is the entry point on this chassis. The Multipoint T45 at £1,818 is the weld-in option when the class or build level calls for a fuller cage. Both are weld-in.

The M6 E24 and 6 Series range
Three kits for the M6 E24 and 6 Series, the widest spread of options across any single model in this guide. National Spec CDS at £889, Multipoint CDS at £1,539 and Multipoint T45 at £1,818. The CDS Multipoint at £1,539 is the middle step: a full weld-in cage at a lower price point than the T45.

The 2000 and CSL range
Four kits across the 2000 and CSL. The 2000 carries Multipoint CDS at £1,311 and Multipoint T45 at £1,818. The CSL has Historic CDS at £1,311 and Historic T45 at £1,818. The prices match between the two models at both steel levels, which makes the decision straightforward: the Multipoint kits for the 2000, the Historic kits for the CSL in a period class. The M1 range
One kit for the M1: Historic T45 at £2,274. With only one kit in the range for this model, there is nothing to compare it against on this page. Ring 0115 9893488 and Cameron will go through the spec and the class requirements before you order.

Common questions about the classic BMW range
What does "Historic" mean on these kits?
Custom Cages’ own name for a cage built for period competition classes. The 2002, CSL and M1 in this range carry Historic kits in T45 or CDS. If you are building for a historic class and are not sure whether the Historic kit is what the championship asks for, ring 0115 9893488 and Cameron will check the specification before you order.
What is the difference between Historic and Multipoint?
Custom Cages use Multipoint for their standard weld-in cage and Historic for the cage built for period competition classes. The construction differs between the two. If the class you are building for draws a distinction, tell Cameron the championship name when you ring.
Are any of these kits bolt-in?
No. All twelve kits in this guide are weld-in. There is no bolt-in option in the classic BMW range. The bolt-in options Custom Cages offer are on the E36, which is covered in the E30 and E36 guide.
Should I choose CDS or T45?
For most builds at club level, CDS built to the published specification is a proven option. T45 earns its place once you are building to a higher spec or the class specifically calls for it. Our T45 vs CDS guide covers the full decision.
