A phone call this morning, and a good one: a Ford Ka Mk1 owner wanting Sparco R100 Vinyl seats, the proper Sparco fitting kit for the car, and a slider so the seat still moves. Cameron took the call and had the answer before the customer had finished the sentence, because the Ka Mk1 is one of the cars Sparco got right.
The short version: three Sparco parts per seat. The R100 Vinyl, the Sparco Ford Ka Mk1 sub-frame with its bridge piece for the Ka’s raised floor, and the Sparco sliding runner kit between them. I have a Mk1 Ford Ka and I want the Sparco R100 vinyl seats with the correct Sparco fitting kit and a seat slider. What do I need?

Everything you need comes from Sparco and bolts together on one pattern. The R100 Vinyl is a base mount seat on Sparco’s 345 by 271 pattern. The Sparco Ford Ka Mk1 sub-frame bolts to the Ka’s factory floor points, carries the top-hat bridge piece the Ka needs to clear its raised floor section, and presents that same 345 by 271 pattern on top. The Sparco sliding runner kit sits between the two, same pattern again, and gives you the fore and aft adjustment a road car needs.
The frame is handed, so a pair of seats means a driver frame and a passenger frame. The runner kit is one per seat at £41.94, so a pair needs two, or the twin pack at £78.00 if you would rather add one line. Cameron’s note from the call: the bridge piece is the part people forget on a Ka, and Sparco put it in the box, which is why this is the frame we send.
The whole install in one drawing. The runners bolt to the underside of the seat first, then seat and runners drop onto the frame, and the frame goes to the floor on the Ka’s own bolt holes with the bridge piece sitting over the raised section.
The fitting order
This is a spanner job on a Saturday morning, not a workshop job, and the order matters more than the effort.
- Take the original seat out. Four bolts to the floor, the belt buckle and any connectors under the seat. Keep the bolts; the Sparco frame uses the car’s own mounting points.
- Fit the runners to the seat, on the bench. The R100 Vinyl has four threaded holes in its base on the 345 by 271 pattern. Bolt the two runner rails to it with the release handle at the front, and check both rails lock in the same notch before the seat goes anywhere near the car. Doing this on the bench is the whole trick.
- Fit the frame to the floor. The Ka frame goes down with its bridge piece sitting over the raised floor section, on the four factory holes. Nip it up, check it sits flat and square to the tunnel, then tighten.
- Seat and runners onto the frame. Drop the seat, with its runners, onto the frame’s top plate and bolt through. Four bolts again, same pattern. Slide the seat fully forward and fully back and make sure it locks at both ends.
- Belt buckle and a sit test. Refit the buckle stalk, check it clears the seat base and the runner through the full travel, plug the belt in and out a few times, then sit in it and check the door still closes on your elbow with room to spare.

Why the R100 Vinyl suits a Ka
The R100 is the slim recliner Garreth reaches for in a small cabin, and a Ka is about as small as cabins get. Common questions
Is my Ka a Mk1?
The original Ka ran from October 1996 to 2008, the rounded one with the big plastic bumpers. The Ka Mk2 from 2008 is a different car on a different floor and takes a different frame. Send us the registration and Cameron will confirm which you have before anything ships.
What is the top-hat bridge piece?
The Ka Mk1 has a raised section in the floor where the seat sits, and a flat frame would not sit right over it. The bridge piece lifts the frame over that section. Sparco include it with this frame, so it is already in the price and the box.
Do I need the runners, or will the seat bolt straight to the frame?
The seat will bolt straight to the frame, but then it will not slide. The runners are the third part for a reason: they give you the fore and aft adjustment, and they sit between seat and frame on the same pattern. Order them with the frame.
Will my seat belt still work?
The original belt stays in the car and the buckle refits, and on a Ka it normally lands in a sensible place. Check the buckle clears the seat base through the full slide before you call it done, and ring us if it does not.
Cloth or vinyl?
Same shell, same frame, same price. Vinyl wipes clean and suits a car that gets used hard or lives outside; cloth breathes better on a long drive. This customer wanted vinyl, and for a Ka that gets driven every day we would not argue.
