Sparco Evo XL Fitted in a Mini R53: Big Seat, Perfect Fit

Fitting large fixed-back bucket seats into smaller hatchbacks is rarely straightforward. Most cars like the Mini R53 have limited cockpit space and narrow cabin widths, which typically rule out bigger seat options. That’s why seeing a Sparco Evo XL, one of the largest FIA-approved fibreglass seats available, installed in a Mini R53 with minimal interior changes was such a surprise.

This isn’t a stripped-out track shell or a heavily modified build either. The installation was done inside a carpeted car with full trim in place, making it a proper test of real-world fitment. For taller or broader drivers who need more space and support, this opens up a new option that previously might have seemed off the table.

To achieve the fitment, the customer used a 611 Motorsport base plate combined with adjustable side mounts. We don’t provide this, but we have a great alternative. This approach allowed them to drop the seat much lower into the cabin and push it further back to improve legroom, key for taller drivers who find factory seat positions too high or too far forward.

Instead of using a Mini R53-specific sub-frame, this flexible setup gave them full control over the seat’s height and angle. Minimal modifications were required; the customer noted that they only had to cut part of the base plate to better suit the carpeted interior. The rest of the car was left unchanged.
