Customer Question: My Sparco R333 Sits Me Too High, What Other Reclining Seats Sit Lower?

Reclining seat guide

Seats that sit too high are one of the most common problems we hear about, especially in cars with a low roofline. A customer came to see us after fitting a Sparco R333 reclining seat and finding it put them too high, uncomfortable for headroom and for the driving position.

So we got the tape measure out in the showroom and compared the R333 with other reclining seats. The Corbeau recliners we measured sat clearly lower, with the Corbeau RRS and SVR the pick for anyone who wants to stay in a reclining seat but sit closer to the floor.

  • We measured the Sparco R333 base at 17cm at the front and 12cm at the rear
  • The Corbeau RRS measured 14cm at the front and 7cm at the rear
  • That is 3cm lower at the front and 5cm lower at the rear
  • The Corbeau SVR shares the RRS base height
  • Low Base versions flatten the leg bolsters but do not lower the seat

How high the Sparco R333 sits

We measured the Sparco R333 in our showroom, from the floor to the top of the seat base:

  • Front of the base: 17cm
  • Rear of the base: 12cm

The R333 is a comfortable, well supported seat. But the height of its base can be a problem for tall drivers, or in cars where headroom is already tight.

Corbeau recliners sit lower

Measured the same way, the Corbeau RRS came in well below the R333:

  • Front of the base: 14cm, 3cm lower than the R333
  • Rear of the base: 7cm, 5cm lower than the R333

It may not sound like much, but 5cm at the rear of the base is where your hips sit, so it goes almost directly into headroom. In a sports car with little room, every centimetre counts.

The Corbeau recliners we have compared all sat lower than the R333’s 17cm and 12cm, which is why we point customers with this problem to Corbeau first.

Corbeau RRS and SVR

The two seats we suggest share the same low base and dimensions. Both also come in a Low Base version. That does not lower the seat itself; it flattens the leg bolsters, so the seat is easier to get in and out of and feels more open.

Corbeau SVR

  • Lower base than the Sparco R333
  • Deep side bolsters and a shaped backrest
  • Fabric, vinyl and other trim options
  • Low Base version available
  • Suits sports cars, daily drivers and track day cars

Corbeau RRS

  • The same low base as the SVR
  • A slightly more relaxed shape of the Sportline shells, which tilts for rear access and reclines
  • Takes a 4 point harness
  • Road and track approval, for any height and waist on our listing
  • Low Base version available

Both come in several versions, including Tartan editions, contrast stitching, heated seats and limited editions, all on the same low base. You can see them in our Corbeau Sportline seats section.

Check the fitting before you switch

Swapping from a Sparco to a Corbeau seat is not always a straight bolt swap. The Corbeau RRS is a base mount seat listed with two bolt patterns, 291mm by 330mm and 345mm by 271mm, and the runners and frame need to match the seat you choose.

Garreth’s advice is to tell us what frame and runners are in the car now, along with the new seat, and we will confirm whether they can stay or what needs to change. Frames and runners are also part of the seat height, so a different frame can sometimes lower you further.

We measured its base at 17cm at the front and 12cm at the rear.

The Corbeau recliners we measured sat lower. The Corbeau RRS base was 14cm at the front and 7cm at the rear.

No. It flattens the leg bolsters for easier access but does not lower the seat.

Not always. The runners and frame must match the Corbeau seat’s bolt pattern, so ask us before ordering.
