Planted Technology Chevrolet Sub-Frames: Ready For The 2025 Racing Season

Seat frame news, December 2024

With the 2025 season coming, we have updated our range of Planted Technology seat frames for Chevrolet. There are 25 Chevrolet frames on the site, covering classic muscle cars such as the Chevelle and the early Camaro, every generation of Corvette from the C3 onwards, and modern cars from the Camaro to the Cruze.

A Planted frame replaces the car's own seat mounting and gives you a strong, flat base to bolt an aftermarket seat to. Here is what has changed, how the frames work and what to check before you order one.

  • 25 Planted Technology frames for Chevrolet on the site
  • Covers the Chevelle, Camaro from 1967, Corvette C3 to C7, Monte Carlo, Cavalier, Cruze and more
  • Laser cut from 3/16 inch steel, welded and powder coated black
  • Bolts to the car's factory seat mounting points
  • Slotted to take sliders from most major seat makers
  • Some Corvette frames depend on where the seat belt tab is

The Chevrolet range

Planted Technology are a US maker with one of the largest ranges of vehicle specific seat brackets anywhere, which is why they cover so many American cars that other frame makers do not. Our Chevrolet range now includes 25 frames.

On the classic side there are frames for the first, second and third generation Camaro (1967 to 1969, 1970 to 1974 and 1982 to 1992), the Chevelle (1964 to 1967 and 1968 to 1972), the Monte Carlo and the Nova four door. The Corvette is covered from the C3 through the C5 to the C6 and C7, with a separate frame for the ZR1. Modern cars include the fifth and sixth generation Camaro and the ZL1, the Caprice, the Cavalier, the Cruze, the Sonic, the Malibu, the HHR, the Colorado, the S-10 and the TrailBlazer.

Each listing gives the model, the years and the Planted part number, with notes on anything that affects the fit.

Which seats can go on them

Planted frames are slotted with a range of hole patterns so that sliders from most of the major seat makers bolt straight on. Planted offer two patterns. The standard one includes the Recaro slider pattern; the alternate one swaps that for the Cobra and Scheel-Mann pattern. So if you already know your seat, tell us, and we will make sure the frame has the right holes.

There are also holes for side mounts and sliding runners, so a side mount bucket seat can be fitted with a pair of side mounts, and a reclining seat can go on runners for fore and aft adjustment. For a Recaro, Garreth’s advice is to use a Planted frame, since the standard Planted pattern is drilled for Recaro’s own sliders. Recaro and Corbeau mounting parts are not interchangeable, so do not mix them.

How they are made

Planted brackets are laser cut from 3/16 inch thick steel, then welded by hand and finished in black powder coat. The result is a stiff, flat platform that sits low to the floor, which helps you keep the seat as low as possible in the car.

Each frame picks up the car's factory seat mounting points. There is no drilling of the floor, and the original seats can come out whole and go back in later, which matters on a valuable classic.

Fitting a frame

Take out the factory seat, bolt the Planted frame to the original mounting points, then bolt your runners or side mounts and the seat to the frame. On most cars that is a straightforward job with hand tools and a torque wrench.

Most frames are made for one side of the car, so order one for each side if you are fitting two seats, and check whether the listing is for the driver or passenger side. Our listings describe the sides as they are on a right hand drive car.

What to check on your Chevrolet

The seat belt. On some cars the seat belt receptacle is mounted on the seat or its runner, and it needs a home on the new frame. The Corvette C6 and C7 frames are the clearest example: there is one frame for cars with the belt tab on the inboard side only and another for cars with tabs on both sides. The ZR1 has its own frame, and its listing warns that the standard belt receptacle cannot be kept.

The exact model and years. Some frames cover a range of body styles and some exclude one, for example the S-10 frame excludes the single cab. If in doubt, send us the details of the car and we will check before you order.

Airbags and wiring. Many modern cars have side airbags, seat sensors or powered seats. Removing the factory seat disconnects them, so tell us the specification of your car.

All 25 frames are in our Chevrolet Planted Technology category. Where a frame lets you keep the original belt buckle, it gives a solid, secure fitting that we strongly recommend. We also keep a selection of Planted frames for other makes in the showroom, and the rest of the Planted Technology range covers many other makes.

No. They bolt to the car’s factory seat mounting points.

Planted frames are slotted for sliders from most major seat makers; tell us the seat and we will check the pattern.

On most frames, yes, but on the Corvette ZR1 the listing says the stock belt receptacle cannot be kept.
