Seat fitting / Side mounts

Alloy is a material choice, not a fitment shortcut

The bracket must match the side-mounted seat, support it in the required position and join safely to the vehicle frame. Weight comes after those checks.

The short version

Compare the manufacturer drawing for the seat and bracket. Check hole positions, thread size, bracket width, bend direction, adjustment range and the frame below. Multi-drilled does not mean every combination is approved.

Never pull the brackets into line with the seat bolts

The left and right mounts should sit parallel. Forcing them against the shell can preload the seat and hide an incorrect frame width.

01 / Upper interface

Confirm the seat holes and permitted supports

Use the current seat drawing and instructions. Identify the hole pattern, thread and any approved bracket requirements. FIA approval on a seat does not make every aftermarket mount part of the homologated installation.

Keep the bolt length appropriate for the insert and hardware. A bolt that bottoms out can feel tight without clamping the bracket.

02 / Lower interface

The base of the bracket must match what is underneath

Check the vehicle frame or floor system for spacing, slot range and runner compatibility. The mount must sit flat without rocking on bolt heads or bends. If runners are used, include their height and travel in the plan.

Universal floor drilling is fabrication work. It needs a competent installer and vehicle-specific consideration of the floor and reinforcement.

03 / Material

Compare construction and application, not the label alone

Alloy mounts can save weight and often offer useful shapes and slot patterns. Steel mounts can be compact and durable. Thickness figures cannot be compared in isolation because material, folds, machining and design all affect the bracket.

Choose the manufacturer-approved part that gives the needed range.

04 / Adjustment

Set height and angle with the driver in the car

Check helmet clearance, pedal reach, steering-wheel distance, thigh support and harness-slot alignment. Use matching holes left and right. After tightening to the current instructions, move any runners fully and inspect for contact.

Recheck the installation after the first use and investigate any witness marks or movement.

05 / Questions

Alloy side-mount questions

Are alloy side mounts universal?

No. Multi-slot brackets cover several positions, but the seat, bracket and frame still need compatible drawings and an approved installation route.

Can I use a different brand of mount?

Sometimes, where the dimensions and seat manufacturer requirements permit it. Confirm the exact parts rather than deciding by brand alone.

Are alloy mounts always lighter than steel?

Often, but not every design. Compare the actual part weights after fit and adjustment range are confirmed.

Can side mounts bolt straight through the floor?

That is a vehicle installation question involving floor strength, reinforcement and position. Use a competent installer and the relevant instructions.
