The standard WRC-R is the closer shell. The XL adds meaningful room for a bigger driver, so its wider and taller outline must also clear the car.
A 5ft 10in, 32in-waist showroom driver was supported better by the standard shell in our earlier comparison. The XL left room around his shoulders. That is a fit example, not a universal waist chart.
Trouser size does not show hip shape, thigh size, torso length or where your shoulders meet the shell. Seat dimensions are a useful filter, not a substitute for sitting in it.
Check shoulder height, not just hip width
Try both with the back and pelvis fully against the pads. Compare lateral support at hips, thighs and ribs, then look at where the shoulders meet the shell and harness slots. A driver can need extra base room without needing a much taller upper shell.
The XL needs a three-dimensional clearance check
Measure at the base, shoulders and top of the shell. Check the centre tunnel, door, cage, roof and steering column with mounts fitted. A larger seat can force an off-centre driving position if the cockpit was not mocked up first.
Verify the current WRC-R version
Use OMP’s current dimensions, approval information and mounting instructions for the supplied model. Confirm side supports, lower-belt openings and validity against the event rules. Old product-round-up figures are not installation documents.
Use the standard unless the body needs the XL
Choose the WRC-R when it supports the driver correctly. Move to the XL for real hip, thigh or shoulder clearance, then prove its shell fits the vehicle. A bigger seat is not a comfort upgrade for a driver who moves inside it.

Is the larger WRC-R XL automatically more comfortable?▾
No. Extra room helps only when the driver needs it. Too much space reduces lateral support and can put the shoulders below or inside the wrong part of the shell.
Can I rely on the published dimensions?▾
Use them to rule out obvious problems, then measure the actual cockpit and sit in the seat. Padding and body shape change how the internal space feels.
Will the same side mounts fit both seats?▾
Check the current seat drawing, mounting pattern, approved supports and vehicle kit. Similar-looking shells do not guarantee an identical installation.
Should I buy the seat before planning the harness?▾
No. Seat openings, driver position, belt route, anchorages and any FHR use need planning together.
