The GT-621 Carbon is Sabelt’s top competition seat, built to FIA 8862-2009: the highest tier of the FIA seat homologation structure, required in international single-seater and GT championship classes and increasingly specified in higher national series. Part number RFSE2019C. Carbon only. There is no fibreglass version of this seat at this standard.
FIA 8862-2009 demands a substantially higher level of shell stiffness and impact load management than the 8855 standard. The design response at Sabelt is a carbon shell using a combination of high-resistance carbon layup, structural foam inserts in the load-bearing zones and varied stratification across different sections of the shell rather than a uniform construction throughout. The head restraint is integrated into the carbon structure rather than a foam section, giving a stiffer containment at head height.
Shell weight is 8.5kg; total seat weight including foam inserts, fixing plates and cover is 9.5kg. That is comparable to a fibreglass Taurus L on finished weight, which reflects that the weight advantage of carbon over fibreglass here is in stiffness-to-mass ratio, not total mass reduction. Memory foam in the load-bearing contact areas provides comfort across longer stints.
Side-mount fixing at 340mm between hole centres. This is wider than the 290mm spacing on every other Sabelt seat in the range. Standard Sabelt alloy brackets will not fit the GT-621 without modification. The bracket must be specified against this seat’s geometry and the car together.
FIA 8862-2009 homologation carries a ten-year approval window, compared to five years for the 8855 seats.
At £4,583, this is the seat for a championship or licence level requiring 8862 certification, or for a driver who wants the top Sabelt carbon construction regardless of regulatory requirement.
