Which Seat Is Right For You? Mirco RS2 VS RS7

Choosing a head supported bucket seat is a big decision, especially when you are working with limited interior space or building a car for serious motorsport use. Within the Mirco range, the RS2 and RS7 are two of the most popular head supported bucket seats we supply, and they are also two of the largest and most supportive designs available.

Both seats feature integrated head support and are designed to offer high levels of lateral stability, but they approach this in slightly different ways. The RS2 focuses on a more compact, slimline design that fits into a wider range of vehicles, while the RS7 is more aggressive in shape and offers increased containment through the shoulders and upper body.

Because of this, the choice between the RS2 and RS7 is less about which seat is better overall and more about which one suits your body shape, driving style, and vehicle interior. In this guide, we break down the key differences to help you decide which Mirco seat is the right fit for your build.

Mirco RS2/RS7 Driver Profile

In the in-store images below, we used a 5ft 10inch driver with a 32inch waist to test out both seats using all the appropriate racewear. As you can see, this driver fits well in both seats, his head and shoulders are positioned nicely on the seat’s side supports, and has good contact on the seat’s thigh support bolsters. In the Mirco RS7 our driver has plenty of space above his shoulders on the support bolsters and below the harness slots, making this seat suitable for taller drivers above 6ft.

The Mirco RS2 is designed for people weighing up to 95 kg and up to 190 cm tall. Drivers with up to a 38-inch waist will be able to fit into the Mirco RS2 comfortably and provide fantastic head support for drivers who are up to 190cm tall.

The Mirco RS2 is designed to offer head support without becoming overly bulky. Its slimline profile makes it a strong choice for smaller cars, classic builds, and vehicles where space around door cards, roll cage bars, or centre tunnels is limited.

The shoulder supports are pronounced enough to provide good lateral stability but do not extend too far forward. This allows the RS2 to fit into a wider range of vehicles without clearance issues. It is a seat we often recommend for classic rally cars and smaller track builds where a head supported seat is required but space is tight.

Despite its compact shape, the RS2 still delivers excellent support through the hips, torso, and head. It is a good balance between containment and practicality, especially for drivers who want head support without moving into a very wide or aggressive shell.

Mirco RS7 3D FIA Motorsport Seat

We have hands-on experience with this seat and know that it’s suitable for drivers with up to a 38-inch waist comfortably. The RS7 is a much deeper seat compared to the RS2 making it suitable for taller drivers up to 6ft and over.

The Mirco RS7 is the more aggressive of the two seats. It is designed for drivers who want maximum containment and are building cars with enough interior space to accommodate it.

Compared to the RS2, the RS7 features much deeper shoulder supports that wrap further around the driver’s upper body. This creates a more enclosed seating position and reduces lateral movement even further, which is particularly beneficial in high grip circuit cars or competition vehicles that see very high cornering forces.

Because of this design, the RS7 is naturally wider and bulkier around the shoulders. It is best suited to cars with larger cabins or purpose built motorsport interiors where clearance is not a concern. For drivers who prioritise maximum support over ease of fitment, the RS7 is often the preferred option.

Why choose a bucket seat with head support

Head supported bucket seats are designed for environments where driver movement needs to be tightly controlled. In motorsport, rallying, and heavy track day use, the forces acting on the driver can be significant, particularly through fast direction changes, uneven surfaces, or heavy braking.

Integrated head supports help limit lateral head movement, keeping the driver more stable and reducing fatigue over long sessions. They also add an important safety benefit in cars fitted with roll cages, helping to reduce the risk of head contact with cage bars or door structures during an impact.

Both the Mirco RS2 and RS7 fall firmly into this category. They are not comfort focused road seats. They are purpose built motorsport bucket seats designed to keep the driver secure when conditions are demanding.

Seat dimensions and fitment differences between the Mirco RS2 and RS7

When choosing between the Mirco RS2 and the RS7, the physical dimensions of each seat play a big role in both driver comfort and vehicle compatibility. While both seats offer head support and a similar overall height, their width and shoulder design are what really set them apart.

The Mirco RS2 has a more slimline profile, particularly through the shoulders and upper body. This makes it easier to fit into a wider range of vehicles, including smaller cabins, classic cars, and builds with door bars or tighter interior space. Because of its narrower shape, it is less likely to contact door cards or roll cage bars during installation.

The Mirco RS7 is noticeably wider, especially at the shoulders. This is where it delivers its increased containment, but it also means it needs more space. In smaller cockpits, the shoulder supports can sit very close to the door cards or cage bars, so careful measuring is essential before choosing this seat.

Key measurements for each seat are as follows.

Mirco RS2 key dimensions

  • Overall height: approximately 960mm
  • Height from base to shoulder line: approximately 660mm
  • Overall width at shoulders: approximately 585mm
  • Internal hip width: approximately 385mm
  • Base width: approximately 480mm
  • Side mount fixing spacing front to back: 290mm

Mirco RS7 key dimensions

  • Overall height: approximately 950mm
  • Height from base to shoulder line: approximately 650mm
  • Overall width at shoulders: approximately 600mm
  • Internal hip width: approximately 385mm
  • Base width: approximately 470mm
  • Side mount fixing spacing front to back: 290mm

Based on driver fitment, we generally recommend the Mirco RS2 for drivers with a 32 to 34 inch waist. It provides strong support while remaining practical for tighter interiors. The Mirco RS7 is better suited to drivers with a 34 to 36 inch waist who want more aggressive upper body containment and have the vehicle space to accommodate it.

As with any head supported bucket seat, measuring both your interior clearance and your own fit before ordering will help ensure the seat performs as intended once installed.

We love how much you can personalise Mirco seats, with every FIA seat you have the choice of different coloured shells, trims, stitching and personal logos and name embroidery. Mirco seats also have many trim material options as well, including 3D Spacer fabric, Vinyl and Velour.

Final thoughts choosing between the Mirco RS2 and RS7

The Mirco RS2 and RS7 are both strong options within the Mirco head supported bucket seat range. They share the same fibreglass construction, customisation options, and motorsport focused intent, but differ in how aggressively they support the driver.

The key to making the right choice is understanding your own build and your vehicle’s limitations. Choosing the seat that fits both you and your car correctly will always deliver better results than simply choosing the most aggressive option.

If you are unsure which seat will work best in your application, seeing them in person or measuring your interior carefully can make all the difference.
