A pair of Sparco Evo XL QRT competition bucket seats, homologated to FIA 8855-1999. Part number 008015RNR-X2.
The XL is the reason this seat is worth knowing about. It is the largest shell in Sparco’s range without a head restraint, cut for a driver around a 38 inch waist, and it exists because the standard Evo is genuinely narrow. Plenty of people buy a competition seat, discover the bolsters sit on their hips rather than around them, and end up selling it on. If the standard Evo has been too tight, this is the shell to try.
Construction
Fibreglass using Sparco QRT technology, which they quote as around 30 per cent lighter than their standard fibreglass, at roughly 6.5kg for the seat. The cover is a non slip fabric that holds your shoulders and backside in place, over a flame retardant liner, and the seat and leg cushions can be split.
Side mount only, on M8 brackets at a 290mm gap. It takes four and six point harnesses.
What else you need
Side mounts and a vehicle specific sub-frame for each seat. The shell does not bolt to the floor and it does not sit on a base mount frame. Sparco’s FIA steel side mounts are the usual pairing and they suit OMP, Cobra and Sabelt shells too.
One thing to ask before you order: FIA 8855-1999 seats carry an expiry date tied to the year of manufacture, not to the year you bought them. If you need the seats to cover a particular season, ask us to read the date off current stock first.
Have you written anything about this exact product?
Yes, we have covered this exact product: Sparco Evo XL Fitted in a Mini R53: Big Seat, Perfect Fit, and Honda Civic FK8 Type R with Sparco Evo XL & TRS Red Harnesses. That is first-hand coverage from our own builds and showroom, not brochure copy.
Will I fit in this seat?
Send us your height and waist size and we will confirm the fit. The paper dimensions only tell half the story, and our showroom team sit in these seats every day, so you get the honest answer rather than a guess from a chart.
Is it FIA approved, and for how long?
Yes, it carries FIA 8855-1999 homologation. Every FIA seat has a not-valid-after year printed on its homologation label, and that label date is what a scrutineer checks, so look at the label on the seat you receive and check it against your championship regulations. Buying new means you get the freshest label the maker currently produces.
Does it work with harnesses and a HANS device?
The shell takes 4 point compatible and 6 point compatible. If you are planning the full seat, harness, and HANS setup, tell us the car and we will spec it end to end.
How do I know it will feel right, not just fit on paper?
Fair question, because makers publish widths and weights, never feel, and two seats with identical numbers can feel nothing alike in the car. We keep the ranges on display in the Nottingham showroom, you are welcome to come and sit in them, and if you cannot get to us, call and describe your build, as the team sit in these seats every day. Our head support measurements guide shows the kind of real-world data we collect.
